Living with these Ronnie Wells brass grip frames introduces a seasoned hand to possibilities for handling power which factory handles lack. At 76 I practice conservation of anatomy, a sensibility largely sacrificed during the competitive days. To my eye we are past the shock of seeing a brass grip frame on a stainless revolver. Once I put the Bradshaw Bisley on the Ruger 03, it was hard to take off. During fitting, the grip frame goes on & off. Yet the grip started to grow on the gun, and grow on me.
To continue learning, the grip is on another revolver, while the 03 wears Bison Hunter whittled into a “Butchered Bison”----finger groove Bison. That too, is growing on me, but the backstrap has a bit too much slope... contoured more for a big, meaty palm. Like Ronnie’s.
These grip frames kick open the door to make a grip frame which compliments the shooter’s hand. In one respect it’s easier to open one’s mind to something new, than to shift one’s hand from the familiar----even when the familiar may be less than correct.
Pages may turn slowly, but the book is open. David Bradshaw

I spent 31 years teaching and hopefully reaching junior high kids. My modus operandi from day one was Monitor and Adjust. That is pay attention to those in front of me and make necessary changes as I went to make both me and them successful. Now that I am five years older than you I find as I have for several years to be able to keep shooting I must constantly Monitor and Adjust. Two major changes have been in the level of the loads and the shape of the grip.

Well it is my best wishes to take the advice of other seasoned veterans of this particular subject and make every possible improvement that (WE) can dream up gentlemen! Our hands are all just like our singular personalities and preferences. very Unique. So i wish to cater to as many as possible so we can shoot till the last beat of our heart and pass on a great American Tradition to our youth! I love the old school, dont get me wrong, But change is inevitable! And i for one am trying to find a way to save the anatomy that we have left. Thanks fellas. R

Which of the Bisley design grips gives you the most top knuckle clearance? I've looked on your page but it's hard to tell from the pictures. Your gripframes look like the solution for recoil issues!

At this Moment the Bradshaw Bisley! 3/16 of an inch more clearance over the standard Bisley. However the Bisley series has always had extra meat in the platen face for material removal back a safe distance of an 1/8 of an inch. This is a Standard Bisley in Red with a Bradshaw over it in Black! This is a standard Bisley demonstrating the inner cut clearance that i put on all of my bisley backstrap farmes for extra material removal for Knuckle Clearance. In the old days (80s) i would weld up this area so it could be cut back. Hope that helps Podna! R

Mr Wells if a person had a piece or two of wood. Could you stabilize and cut it to your frame? If so what size would you need? Thanks Clint Wells

Any where around 3" x 5" is best with the grain flow going axial with the 5" Here is a link to another thread that will show the slab style and size below the 357 max. Preferably atleast 3/4 of an inch thick. Potato judge and David Clements sent me some nice walnut to do for them and it worked out perfect. R singleactions.proboards.com/post/362380/thread

Thanks! Am getting a Blued SBH that from the looks of the pictures someone converted to Bisley. The sad part is I think they used a Stainless gripframe and rolled every edge. The good part I am getting it cheap and it must be saved or it’s going down the road!

Finger grooves, eh? Looking forward to seeing it - I don’t believe I’ve seen anything like that on a single action.
