I did get a full pass through! Even with the heavy winter hide. Cats sure enjoyed him anyway. The only evidence left in the yard is some fur. Dog disposed of the body. They are all my accomplices!

Funny... a little cottontail ( & I mean little ) has taken refuge during the blizzard, in the house doggies fenced "business" kennel out side the patio door, by the fireplace... he's got to be about 1/8 the size of that big "jack" I haven't found him with the 17 yet, as there are too many things on the patio he's been hiding behind... MRS was kidding that I should shoot it, & we'd have him for supper... he's only about soft ball sized... told her it wouldn't make a meal for the 4 farm cats that Jack on the other hand must have made a good meal for whole LAZYTCROSS critter collection...

had a visitor in the yard yesterday... we've been seeing a couple roosters & about 10-12 hens in the yard the last couple weeks... watched this one eating buds off the old lilac bush in the front yard... so I scattered some cracked corm around the base of this pine tree... hoping I'm not just feeding the red squirrels... was glad to see this guy after the blizzard... often during storms like that, they get buried under snow drifts & if too deep end up dying this about 20 ft out from the patio door just outside of the inside doggie run

Sigh, pheasants have been a rare sight around here for decades now. Had lots of them in the '70's and back. Had quail and grouse too. Hardly worth having a bird dog anymore.

yep... I've been asked about Pheasant hunting at our place, but have discouraged it for as long as we've lived here... I hear one or maybe 2 Pheasant roosters each spring on our property... not enough roosters to hunt... I think me building paddocks may be helping, clearing up the old tree line & fencing it in, & planting grasses... the Pheasants have it easier to get away from the predators... I think if I was seeing 4-5 roosters I might try hunting a couple... but right now... I'll just be shooting them with the camera...

Agree, but I sure miss eating them ! At the far end of my north trapline as a boy, along the east branch of the Chagrin River there was a pheasant farm. I had permission to trap next door for fox and raccoon that were tempted in by the pheasants. After a wet heavy snow the bird pens collapsed and several 1000 pheasants got loose. We offered to help catch with landing nets. Our traps were ignored with all the live birds running loose anyway. After two days the easy pickings were gone, caught by us or.. Every 20 feet a spot of blood and scattered feathers. After the two days the owners told us to go ahead and hunt up as many of the birds as we wanted. My Brittany Spaniel went to work and we filled everyone's freezer over the next few days. Too many hawks and owls and nest raiding size varmints and coyotes too, now. Boys don't trap and men don't have packs of night hounds anymore. They will never come back.

Happiness is a heavy bird vest and a tired dog.

Some friends got a coyote off the west side of our property yesterday... Been worried about the lambs, with the snow drifted over the fences, and outside doggie not feeling well... Didn't see it, but have seen the tracks

haven't seen many this winter... a pair of partridge on the driveway... usually have 8 or 10 on the farm site, but they have been replaced by the Pheasants this winter... glad they didn't disappear all together...

Here's a rough customer I smoked (in more ways than one) a few years back.
