VEry dangerous defensive situation there Ryan, glad you came out ok Good shooting Oh yes...VERY dangerous situation . 8 yards with less than ideal lighting. He kept darting out from under my deck to grab seed from the base of the birdfeeder. He'd run out, I'd miss, he'd run back. A couple of minutes later he'd run out again. Took me a couple of shots to range him...nailed him on the third. It was much more entertaining then the usual winter trapline I run in my garage and shed!
I did have a defensive shooting with a mad ermine a few years back. I'll see if I can find that picture!

Ok, wait now.....first you missed a few times and now you tell us you had to walk it in/range him.....Im qickly losing respect here Ryan......lol
Hahahaha, I dont doubt one bit it was entertaining.
My wife and daughter thought it was hilarious when I would put on the sneaky stalk on a band of chipmunks living in the front flower bed. The sneak stalk took place on the front porch with a 357! One by one they were eliminated! Lol

I might not have shot the Ermine. Was it causing damage or a death sentence sent down by the wife ? Had one in the garage where I grew up. It treed Mom on top of my car. FUNNY ! Had one here the last couple of years and only caught one mouse in the garage and it got et in half overnite. I wish we had a couple at camp. LOTS of mice and red squirrels. Grrr.!

As long as we are talking big game like that, you guys need to get a sniff hound if you want to truly be affective!

Normally I wouldn't shoot one, they're one of my favorites critters to watch in the woods - I was fortunate enough to see one on three separate occasions while hunting this fall. The one I did shoot however was a pretty comical story, one which I tried to share this afternoon in a post. An hour into it I was just putting the finishing touches on the tale when my computer froze on me and I lost the entire story. After retrieving the computer from the snowbank I decided I would wait and come back to it another day.

Got another small possum over by the barn... Doggie had it trapped... I just gave it a taste of my boot bottom...

Another possum got to taste my boot again tonight, while I was doing chores... Doggie called me over to the old machine shed for some help... I gave it the boot, and let him finish it off... Way too many critters in the yard... We lost 3 young kittens this week... Guessing it was the possums sorry, not a very clear picture... too much movement in, low light to get a good focus...

These all shot by me, with help from our outside doggie, that has treed the coons & the other "small predator" Mink??? these 1st 3 pictures, critters shot in the last couple weeks, since the crops came out... & all shot with a custom built 17 Mach 2 built on an old Marlin Magazine fed 22 LR... that was completed 8-10 years ago... doggie has to make sure they are dead by crushing some bones & shaking them... Outside doggie seems to be enjoying the varmint hunts too... Here's one of mine from several years back. These two were making little snakes until interrupted by the Kimber.

Wow, we sure don't have any of those in Maine! But I'd definitely shoot them if we did...geez...
