Introducing Charlie... our new 5 month old farm dog... getting coyotes in the farm yard is not a good thing, & we were missing having a farm doggie, after I had to put the last one down for biting people... we had been looking for something beyond the puppy stage, but this one came along... crossed with 2 purebred dogs, one a big black german shepherd, the other a yellow lab... how he ended up white is beyond me, the gold overwash, I'm sure is from his lab mother... going to be a big boy... got paws as big as saucers... I should drag out the snow shoes... we did a lap around the building site yesterday, & trudging through snow up to 3ft deep was hard on the damaged rib... he seems really smart, we didn't need to put a chain on him his 1st night... he's a little timid... startled him, when we flushed a bunny off the patio, flushed out a couple roosters & a hen Pheasant in the north woods, saw some big coyote tracks on the south side, came into the yard... may have been the one in the last picture I posted here... but looked fresher than that... right now he's scared of the sheep... but already likes eating their poop... sniffing all the trees where the squirrels have been active... next time around, I'll start exposing him to the 22... thinking he'll be my new hunting buddy... I was a little nervous that he would take to me, since in two meeting, all we saw were young ladies at his previous owners... but we bonded yesterday... thinking he knows I'm the Alpha...

MWM, try putting some cotton balls in his ears to help muffle the 22, it may help initially. Although I do t know how well since his ears are erect, but still it could help acclimate him to the supersonic crack. Good looking pup!!

Local hunters got a female coyote off our property this morning... down by the drainage ditch.. looks like she was bred,... like seeing that... 10 - 12 less coyotes this spring is a good thing

I guess that grouping up of smaller animals to confuse predators works.... had 7 red pine squirrels in the front walnut tree on Friday evening... shot the 1st one with one shot from the 17... missed the 2nd one, and darned clip went empty... had a box of cartridges in the window sill, but by the time I reloaded, all had disappeared... introduced Charlie to the dead squirrel, and he took to shaking it like a pro Teddy is a lover not a fighter... but he was the runt of the litter so he has a little bit of "lil dog syndrome" thinking he's bigger than he really is... Last night our little Teddy Bear had to go outside about 3:30 in the morning... my turn to get up... I let him out into our 30x30 dog run outside the patio door that I’m usually shooting squirrels out of... in the dark, I heard some mean sounding growling come from under the picnic table on the one side of the dog run ( I normally stack firewood from the totes that line one side of the run, onto the table, when I’m bringing in firewood into the house ) Teddy was barking bravely... it was too dark to see, but what ever, was under the table was bigger than a cat... I called Teddy inside, ( he came in willingly ) & slipped on some loafers I had by the door, grabbed a flashlight, and that little 22 J Frame and went back out to battle what turned out to be a buck coon that had dragged something to eat, into the dog run, to get away from Charlie, who has free reign outside, in the yard... I was pretty nervous fighting a caged in coon with a pair of slip on shoes and in my sleep shorts in the dark... then it turned out I only had 5 rounds in the revolver... after chasing it around the fenced square, with the flashlight firing when I had the chance... while the coon was still growing, when I went empty, I was sure it would be dead in the morning It was... Pictures following on Monday

It is in that photo. Gun is a build in progress. I'd had the cylinder out while walking across the field to that little raider of the grain shack. Cylinder had just gotten heat treated, and I'd started on sight regulation, note the white tape on the front sight.
