First of all I am a 1911 guy. I love em. Always have. BUT I would like a compact (commander sized) plastic gun in 9mm. I mean just because. I do not like Glock. I don't know why but my finger drags on the inside bottom of the trigger guard on every one I have ever tried and it just BUGS me! What plastic fantastic of all the myriad offered now closely resembles the feel of a 1911 - specifically grip angle and a thinner grip. I know, I know I have to try them, but it seems there are 100 out now. Surely ONE must be close huh? S&W? FN? CZ? Heck I will go feel them, but has anyone already done this search? Ans before anyone recommends it - I already have a 9mm 1911.

The prices listed in that article have nothing to do with real street prices. We sell those for $479 without the worthless holster and mag pouch, sometimes less if we get them on sale. I’ve sold them for under 450, and I’m quite sure you can easily match or beat that price online

I get to handle sometimes hundreds of guns a day now and I must say, for a single stack, striker fired 9mm the new S&W 2.0 Shields are pretty nice.
I have been shooting Glocks since they first came to U.S. shores and I always just sort of rolled my eyes at all the wannabe "copies," especially those first couple from S&W. Oh my hell, Sigma??? SD9??? Crapola IMO. But now I'm thinking Glock needs to up their game or they are going to keep losing market share.
Springfield Armory, S&W, Sig Sauer, CZ.... they are all putting out pretty decent plasti-guns now. Ruger is getting there, too, and the Canik is not a bad piece, either.
But for what you're talking about, I'll say - again - S&W 2.0

If Glock is off the table, the S&W 2.0 is a great option as is the new Ruger Security 9--the RS9 I handled had a fantastic trigger and felt like a Glock someone had dropped $200 of aftermarket parts into.

Do you want plastic and striker fired or just plastic? If it's just plastic, look no further than the CZ P-07.
Commander size, exposed hammer, can be set up with a safety for Condition 1 carry or with decocker for traditional DA/SA and both options come in the box. 3 sizes of back strap are included which I've found can give the feel of an arched MSH or a more flat MSH (my preference), $450-ish at my local place that usually prices their stuff of the high end of reasonable. The only downside IMO is the price of the mags, $35+ depending on the vendor.
I went from a G19 to a G26 to a CZ Rami. I've got a P-09 and P-07 as well. I tried to IWB the 07 but it just wasn't as comfortable as the Rami so it and the 09 take turns as vehicle guns but if I get serious and lose this extra weight and change the holster, the 07 will be back in the carry rotation.

Another good option for a polymer frame double-action automatic is the Beretta PX4 Compact. I had one and it was excellent--particularly the trigger--and parts support from Beretta is fantastic.

The Kahr PM9 and other from that company are excellent shooting guns. I use the PM9 and K9 every now and then. Their guns are very well made.

You guys are making excellent suggestions, but every one of you missed "Commander size" or "slim grip" as the requirements.
All the slim grip guns mentioned are not Commander size, and all of the guns mentioned that are the appropriate size have a double stack mag, not particularly thin.

If you have the coin, check out an H&K VP9. My Brother bought one and I had some time at the range with it. I was fairly impressed. Grip panels can be changed out to fit any had size. Backstrap, frontstrap, heck even the side panels can be swapped out. Trigger was really good right out of the box. Even came with night sights. Jeff

Ruger .45 Commander CZ P-07 Overall width Ruger .45 Commander: 1.34" (per Ruger website) CZ P-07: 1.46" (per CZ website) I meant to take the circumference of the two but got sidetracked and didn't. Of course all of this means doodly squat if the gun doersn't feel right or is uncomfortable but those are subjective and up to the end user. Glocks don't fit my hand and the 07 feels lighter than the Rami but the Rami is what carries best for me.

Boxers, Briefs, Commando... No rights. No wrongs. Make your choice and pay your money. My personal plastic fantastic preference is Glock. Nasty soulless tools but IMHO the best all round tool for the job. The clincher for me is the fact that a civilian, as a GSSF member, can go to a Glock Armorer course and they are routinely held all over the country.

1911 fan here also, one with sm-med hands that handles a med frame Glock OK, but probably will do a grip reduction on one someday.
I'll second the motion on a Kahr. I've several of the less expensive C series & have grown fond of them. And, one won't break the bank to try it.

15 rounds - pobably a little fat isn't it? Surprisingly not. I'm also a 1911 guy but because I've been cursed with short stubby fingers, I've had to install short triggers on all my 1911's. I would say the grip feel on the H&K is closer to a Browning Hi Power. (when all the small bits are installed on the grip that is) Jeff
