I have that same black layered micarta that Jason did on my 10.5" SBH which is blued. I also have it on my .500 JRH BFR. Looks awesome. Pretty sweet looking front sight as well.

I got to shoot it today, just five rounds as my fiancé was doing her quals for CCW instructor. 465gr 16gr of HS6, hits about 5” high at 30yards offhand, I was able to clean 5 plates off a plate rack at that distance and the sixth plate just fell over from fright!!! Windage was right on top of the front sight just 5” high, I’ll try and chrono tomorrow as well as try other bullet weights. The 16gr load shoots easy and accurate, There is nothing to dislike about this gun.

Serious business, all business, BaddA#@ comes to mind, I have to brag on the way the whole deal looks with Doc's offering on the leather. Doug was right,,, that look of the end of the barrel in the Holster,,, WOW! The finish and sights are cool. And to finally quote you,, There is nothing to dislike about this gun. I was thinking about the 440 gr w/ 13grs of HS-6 might be a little closer to POA,, or maybe even the 400 grain. You will have fun trying different loads with that gun.

Big fan of the Dovetail beads & fixed rears as well for bush-guns.. I keep gold-beads on mine for the most part. Recently really took a liking to a white-colour 1/16th bead I swapped out just to see its difference vs Gold... & it may just stay there forever! So far haven’t tried a fibre-optic one*
If I was setting a six-gun up (Big)-bore as a bran-new build for a backcountry-specific, I’d do it very similar to yours

Cherokeetracker, the leather is from Bullard not Doc, I’ve got two pieces on order from Doc but they’re not here yet. One is for my 10.5” 357max and the other is for a sweet little SW 43, airweight 22lr J frame I swapped a friend a back up Benelli Nova I had for 3 gun for it. The nice thing is the front FO is available in various heights, .34, .37, .40, .45, and .50. The .37 seems to be on it so after figuring the necessary correction .40 seems be the closest, but I’ll chrono to make sure I’m getting as close to 1000fps as i can 440-465gr is what I’d prefer for an everyday bullet. One of the better front sights for me has been the David Clements style with the white line in it. Different than your white dot but effective none the less, having that white against the background of some heavy brush or evening shadows, can mean a big difference to me also.

Got to go to the range yesterday, and shoot some everyday loads. All this data is from a 4” barrel....... 410gr Brian Reece LFN - 16.0 gr. HS6–885fps 450gr Brian Reece LFN - 16.5 gr. HS6–925fps 465gr MBW LFN - 16.5gr. HS6–945fps 465gr MBW LFN - 17gr. HS6–975fps Everything was shot at 25yds, sitting on the ground elbows on knees. I shot 3 shot groups, and chrono’d 7 shots. Average velocity has been rounded to nearest 0 or 5 fps. I averaged 2.5-3” groups with all the loads except the 465gr at 945fps, I shot a very nice sub 1” Group, and it was not the first three rounds from the gun, it was the second or third. All the loads except the 410gr. one had very consistent velocity spread, less than 10fps for highs and lows, the 410gr. load was 18 FPS between high and low. Although I was hoping for 1000fps, the 945fps load is generating some interest with its grouping at 25yds. I’ll load more and check it at 50-75yds, all the loads are quite comfortable to shoot. Once I’ve got my everyday load sorted out, I’ll work on something a bit stiffer,...450-465 at 1100-1150fps. Once that’s done the next thing to figure is what is the penetration difference between the two loads and is it even worth the trouble of having an ED load and a Stout load? There is still nothing to dislike about this Little Black gun, and the “riled up mule with its ears laid back” seems to have very good temperament. Trapr
