This another tongue in cheek kinda thread. I made my decision to buy my BSBH 480 while watching Jurrassic Park, so just saw that "Shark Week" coming up soon, so.. What would be your choice of holsterable hardware ? Ammo ? Hmmnnn, how about a Ruger Floridian ? A 357max SRH snubby ? Oooooh ! Ought to sell like crazy ! LOL.

A local guy, known as Stainless Steve, has a single shot "derringer" in 10 gauge. He also has sleeves for the lil' monster for 12, 20 and 410. He told me he fired the 10 gauge shell once... his son was a baby so cloth diapers were plenty. He put on a shooting glove and then wrapped his hand up with a cloth diaper. He doesn't remember much about the shot except it hurt a lot... and split the flesh open on the web between thumb and forefinger. Maybe an oversize 5 shot cylinder to shoot 12 gauge slugs???

To quote Homer Simpson.."DOH ! " You guys missing the point. A new niche gun from Ruger. More people in Fla than Alaska, more people travel to Fla than Alaska...logic. Ouch, only hurt a little bit. bang sticks, powerheads kinda hard to conceal..one shot, slow to reload, etc..all around, no fun.

Steve... got one question... slow & heavy or fast & ricochet off the water's surface, & "skip" a bullet a mile down the coast line??? much as I'd like another 357 Max... maybe they need a "50 Ruger" or "50 sharkbite" now that the 480 has been gaining popularity ( I can already see a special toothy hollow point for the new 50 cal. ) I'd buy a 50 cal snubbie in a heart beat... but, if we're not calling it an "Alaskan", & it's gonna be a "Floridian" then we're going to need a special finish, & a lanyard ring on that "shorty" Super Redhawk ... ooops... was I taking this too seriously ... OK, perhaps a couple special "ports" to affix a couple paper umbrellas to shade your sights from the harsh sunlight & reflection from the beach

'Nope, you are on point. But the smaller bore will penetrate better(maybe) but mostly to invigorate that cartridge that should not die. When FIL moved to Fla many years ago, he sold off the deer and pheasant battery and bought a SS 357 BH.. Cracker buddies took him gator hunting and sharks were caught om purpose and otherwise.. Sent him a box of BB 180gr WFN's way back then. So, today, danger everywhere ! I'm talking near to straight down shots to underwater shots. Back in the day the SEALS went with 'Smith 357's for there playing in water scenarios. Black chrome finish ? Cool. Nitride coating ? Ooooh.

Mouth watering at the memory of shark steaks that had been dry rubbed with Carib jerk seasoning and grilled the next day. Burp. Off Fort Pierce.

na... you have way more taste than me, as far as finishes goes... I was thinking a hydro dip picture from a Florida beach post card Black Chrome would be cool, definitely do the lanyard ring for boat use.... then you could wear it around your neck if you go out "clubbing"... still not sold on the long cylinder snubbie, & really thinking a 5 shot 50 for a Florida gun

Yeah, get that civil war 58cal rifles penetrate water better than AR rounds. But we can carry the logic thang too far now. Want the 357max fans on board to carry this thru. Once under water, maybe the smaller bore better ? Haven't got a clue.

Many years ago, if I remember correctly in GUN WORLD mag, there was an article on a gun writer get together for deep sea fishing. Sharks were eating the catch before the fish could be boarded. Elmer went to work on the sharks with his 4 inch 29. Had great success. Soon fishing was forgotten as all started shooting sharks.

Yup, that rings a bell sorta. Am not advocating drifting around with a dead sumpin' hanging over the side, shooting sharks. Am advocating finding a viable niche for another shot at a 357max, packable, holster gun with real world uses. Sorta. Ok, so shark does taste good, if handled well.

Remember that article & probably still have it. And Elmer was shooting CAST, a jacketed bullet wouldn't go down more than a couple of feet before it ran out of "poop" & bounce off the sharks.

Sorry Steve... I hate to add to your self induced headache... & I really hate to poke a hole in your rubber ducky flotation device thingy... but thinking the cylinder window in a Super Redhawk Frame is not long enough for a 357 Max cylinder, long enough for a proper bullet... I'm sure there is enough meat there to make a custom, but not thinking Ruger would chop up one of their frames ( thinking we were doing good to get the 5 shot Super Blackhawk ) plus the longer cartridge is better suited to a longer barrel... I'm starting a mutiny... I do like the idea of the Floridian but I'm pushing for the "50 Sharkbite", with the toothy hollow point
