sorry... a little rant... I spent 45 minutes yesterday on the phone with a Brownells Gun Tech... & got absolutely nothing done, in searching for sights for my Martini custom... I got the impression that as soon as I said target sights that his brain went to AR land... I understand I'm not going to get a sight or sight base expressly for a Martini... but the guy knew nothing about non auto target rifles, single shot rifles, Martini's or finding things on their website ( which I had up so we could look over any recommendations ) the only positive I came out with after this long conversation was I was able to find front sight ramps ( which I had not found on the website previously )... He was not able to calculate sight heights needed, even though I provided the barrel length, and the profile, so, because I had done that previously, at least I have my part numbers for the front sight pieces... but am no further along on finding a base for one of a couple target rear sights I'm looking at... so... I decided to call Williams this morning... of course they were all busy, & took my number, & will return my call... sometimes on building a custom, the most frustrating thing, is sourcing the proper parts I have many more of these... ( and single shot rifles ) than I do semi autos... am I in the minority here... how many of you guys have more semi auto rifles than you have bolt, lever, pump, or single shot???

I haven't... but that is a good suggestion... will see what Williams has to say, since they are manufacturing most of what is currently out there...

Magnumwheelman,
No, you're not Crazy at all. Polymer wonder pistols and AR platforms have taken a huge slice of the market in my area. That market slice is further reflected in the availability of accessories locally. I can find any number of fitted glock or M&P holsters and replacement sights at the LGS while finding nothing for K and N frame smith's Forget finding the 'exotic' Moon Clip. All is not doom and gloom though. I have seen renewed interest in wheel guns and even lever guns in my area. It'll take time but I'm hopeful that the other flavors of Boom will see a rising following as tastes mature and propagate into other types. We are seeing a surge in those just recently waking up to the wonder and joy of firearms ownership.

Its much like going into the auto parts store to buy parts for an older vehicle, Hot-Rod, engine swap, etc.
Those young guys can't help you if it's not in their computer. They get really mad when I ask for the most senior parts guy.

I spoke with a friend in Sweden the other day, and he told me he has purchased numerous "old" guns lately at ridiculous prices because nobody there is interested in them......they're not sexy and new!!!! Ex.: three Winchester leverguns in very good useable condition, a Win 1886 in 33 win for 300.00, a takedown 94 for 160.00, and a Win73 for 550.00
At SHOT I was astonished at the number of new AR assemblers out there now.

If Martini actions/parts were plentiful, reasonably priced and easy to work on I am sure they have more popularity. As is though... they are a custom only. Nothing off the shelf is going to work. YMMV.... There is a interactive calculator on the Brownells web site for calculating sight height. www.brownells.com/GunTech/Sight_Height_Calculator/detail.htm?lid=13186

And you must have operator tats to run an AR. I've noticed every ad features a dude or gal with tats flexing the triceps.
I would say "long range" bolt guns are in the AR boom as well.

Those pesky AR's..... if only they had a proven record of performance. I mean come on, ONLY 53 years in service with our military. Are they ever going to be reliable???
Don't get me started on the "Sniper Rifle" craze... those guys and their ability to hold half MOA or better at distance under all conditions, what do they know...
We are our own worst enemy.....

I like them all! A late arrival to the AR camp, 500 yard run downs after a 2 mile run gave me an appreciation for their capability. Any accurate gun, rifle or pistol, has a spot in the rack at my house. Always looking for another. May take up F class shooting this summer... We old retired guys have to do something with all this time and money..

I'm taking up F-Class myself this summer and going to shoot some PRS matches.
I'll be shooting F/TR with a 308 and Warner Tool Flatline 180's. They have a proven BC of .725!!! I have them going 2865fps average out of a 26" barrel.

I learned to love AR's in the Marine Corps. I was an armorer. I have them in all different configurations... Long range, SBR, SPR, 223, 9mm..... not much they can't do or be configured for. And just so there is no confusion, I have five Ruger single actions that keep them company
