I bought one (Windham Weaponry) awhile back than sold it shortly afterwards. Only put MAYBE 30-40 rounds downrange with it. Then the ban crap started here in NY and I put one together before I couldn't. Its a Spikes lower and a JSE 223 Wylde varmint upper and, rigged with a Burris 4-12x40 scope. I also switch it up with a EoTech 512(?) for home duty. Its heavy! I want to like it but, like some things it has no soul... I have only put maybe a 20-30 rounds downrange... I hope to actually use it for predators like Wiley'Coyote, fox etc. I never really took it to the range and seen what it's capable of...

Don't hate on Brownells TOO much. From a numbers perspective, they probably sell a million AR parts for every Martini part.
I'm in a similar camp, the auto-guns do nothing for me. However, I view my AR as a tool. Like so many, I bought a cheap-o a while back under fear that it was now or never. I have no love for that thing, but it's perfectly reliable.
Last fall, I got a parts kit and threw together the AR I wanted. It's still cheap and not special, but I actually like it. I went to a gun show and quickly found a missing part for it. Could have bought the part from a dozen dealers. I didn't see a single Martini-Henry.

AR's are certainty more work to shoot consistently, especially large platform AR's (308). It takes a bit of time to be able to wring out what they are really capable of.

I realize everyone has an opinion on these and that's the Great thing about the USA. I do appreciate the fact that they have taken ahold here and if these are what gets more folks into the shooting sports, than so be it that's Great! I think the more WE have enjoying the sport the more WE have backing US. I agree with Sean, I view these as another hammer in the toolbox. You certainly can find anything you want to customize them and, again I view this as a positive for US. MagWm I hope you find everything you need for the Martini you are looking for. If you post up what you need, maybe WE can help you locate the parts... BigBore44

I have an AR for when Paul Reveere comes riding through town. It is the defacto group standard. Otherwise, I normally shoot anything else but the AR

Just the 1 AR15, and it's been to the range twice...
I enjoy messing with the little CVA single shot 35 Remington more... cast bullets and such.

I've got 2 of 'em & for a couple of reasons.
1) If I have a pretty gun, I tend to want to keep it pretty & not ding it up in the field. Silly maybe, but it is why I sold the the gorgeous, jewel-like CZ452s I owned. I just don't care if my ARs get dinged up. 2) Both my ARs serve dual purpose hunting/HD/SHTF roles. The 18" 6.8SPC is death incarnate on our whitetail & packs a hefty whallop on ~200lb, thin skinned mammals out to 400yds & the 10.5" .300BLK will also smack down a deer inside 100yds (my personal limit, YMMV) & is small & handy enough for truck gun duty or "bump in the night" use. 3) They are a very accurate platform. I've personally held 2.75" at 300yds, prone off a bag, with the 6.8 & while I'm a fair hand with a long gun, I'm no kinda sniper. 4) I was issued one variant of the M16 or another for over 20 yrs & you just can't trump 20 yrs' worth of training & muscle memory. They are tools, nothing more, nothing less.
I don't have anything against bolt guns & do admire greatly a fine specimen of the genre, but if I don't have a specific use/purpose for a gun, I won't keep it & have (finally) figured out what works for me & what doesn't. I'm way too ADD to punch tiny holes in paper & have nowhere to shoot past 400yds (& that only rarely). For rifle work, I just prefer leverguns, but for those situations where they're not the right choice, my ARs fit the bill nicely.
I do despise the whole tacti-cool, mall ninja thing, though. I worked for & with too many real "operators" to have any respect for the poser crowd. 'N as both a 2nd generation biker & retired paratrooper, I came by my ink honestly, not to fit in with the "cool kids".

Todays range session consisted of two 1911's, two Ruger single actions all shooting home cast. Two AR rifles one long heavy barrel and a suppressed SBR both shooting hand loads. Variety and the Freedoms we enjoy here are incredible !!!! MagWm I hope you find everything you need for the Martini you are looking for. If you post up what you need, maybe WE can help you locate the parts... ^^^^^THIS^^^^ I do have to say if your sitting on an AR waiting for the shit to hit the fan, how do you plan to be proficient with it? Not trying to pick fun but seriously.

I have never felt compelled to buy something I have absolutely no use for whatsoever, out of fear that I might not be able to buy it at a later date. That's nothing but a recipe for accumulating a lot of useless crap.
I share the OP's frustration...scopes come to mind. Everybody wants wiz-bang garbage anymore, and it's near impossible to find a high quality fixed 6 power anymore. My favorite manufacturers have stopped making them in favor of "tactical" crap.

The glass on these is excellent, the adjustments are generous and accurate, they are totally bomb proof. I have this exact scope on my favorite squirrel rifle, Anschutz 1712.
