Chipmunk patrol with my Winchester 52B .22 . The little rodents were getting too settled-in around my car port. Last summer I had a dozen of the striped rodents move into the engine bay of my new truck and I played hell getting them out of the firewall. So now I keep the herd thinned and put their little heads on spikes as a warning to future interlopers. It's a long story.

45s are always fun. Detonics, from my experience are a handful with hardball.

The FA .475LB & the Max. Ringing silhouette steel this morning. The Max was more accurate than I expected. I heard they can be hot or cold. .475 & .357 Max by Brian RENO, on Flickr

Found some gold dot bullets for the 380 Loaded a book max load and put a few through a Glock 42 Really accurate, that was easy.
Finally got the speedlock firing pin assembly for the 17 Remington bolt rifle. That thing was lost in the mail for three weeks. Had to fit it to the small diameter firing pin bolt that I'd gotten. Also got a Trigger Tech trigger for the rifle and put it all together.
Really fantastic trigger. Exceptionally good. These two things made quite the noticable difference in the function of the rifle.
That 17 Remington is a laser beam.

.25 ACP. A reader requested testing factory ball from a 2" barrel, so I fired some into Clear Ballistics gel. I chose a load that supposedly would duplicate factory ball from Linda's Colt Junior (about 740 fps) according to Lee Precisions data. Not even close- avg. 619 fps. and 9-1/2" pen. Fired from the 3" Mauser it was a lot closer to factory; avg 712 fps. and closer to 13" of pen. (Factory ball usually tests closer to 740-750 fps.) I also had some 35gr. GDHPs and loaded those over 1.7gr of Red Dot with a CCI500 SPP, and they did what GDHPs do- expand consistently and uniformly. Unfortunately with low-energy bullets you get expansion or penetration, and these were no exception. The made 994 fps. from the Colt and 1067 fps. from the Mauser. Penetration was around 7-1/2 to 9". Well, at least they're pretty. This is a maximum load- do not exceed! Of the .25 ACP loads I've tested the best overall results were with Rimrock's 55gr.* hard-cast RNFP lead bullets over 1.1gr of Red Dot with a CCI 500 primer. From the 2" barrel these get 12-1/2" of penetration through four layers of denim into the CB gel, and from the 3" barrel on the Mauser they get 16+", and with the flat point are IMO less likely to deflect off of bone. *The box I have actually averages 58gr. I think the 35gr GDHP would make an excellent varmint/small-game load from my .251 TCR revolver, or the Mauser for that matter; it seems quite accurate enough for the job.

A good day shooting but still frustrated I haven't been able to beat Federal Gold Medal Match in my Clark PPC Revolver... How do they do it? Five rounds off the bench at 25 yards.

Back at it with seventeen caliber ground squirrel genocide.
T'hell with those bastards.
The speedlock firing pin assembly and Trigger Tech trigger definitely make it a different experience.

Today? Testing my .41 Magnum bear load. Black Bears hereabouts, not too big but plenty of penetration is the thing. I'm loading a 210gr copper-washed LSWC over 9.0gr. of Unique; seems a good compromise between penetration and rapid follow-up shots in my 2-1/2" Taurus 415. Basically it's the most powerful load I can rapid-fire accurately. Fired into Clear Ballistics 10% ordinance gel the round passed through 25" of gel, missed the last block and smashed a massive dent in the steel backstop. Good enough, I expect! Feeling pretty good about this load!

My first rounds of handgun ammo since the middle of last November!!!!!! Some may remember I stress fractured my right hand in 5 places JUST before the local opener of deer season. This led to surgery, and a few weeks back just when thought it was all going good, another surgery and pin through the thumb. But finally i got the thumbs up (I can do that now without pain!) from the hand doc to fire at will. He advised working into it, so I broke out the 7-1/2" Single seven in 327. It sports a new front sight from Fermin, and I have been itching to try it! The load was a sedate 4.0 of Unique with a 100 SWC in 32 mag cases. Mild, cheap accurate small game load - perfect for trying the new hand. First three shots at 25 yds went 1/2 inch and about 3 inches right. A quick adjustment and the next 4 went just under 3/4" dead center. Fermin's sight works slick! Plinked a box of 50 at assorted targets of opportunity out to 50 yds or so with great satisfaction.
So, "Working up to it" being fulfilled, I grabbed the 500 Linebaugh, and some 400 gr SWC loads that run about 1100. I will admit that I was a tad concerned the hand might literally explode in horror movie fashion on that first shot, and i may have missed by a few inches (Or yards) on the first round. But it was all good, no explosions, and no more agony than one would expect from such armament. I fired the last 4 at steel plates at 25 and 50 yards and rang the bell decisively. I decided to quite on a high note. But it sure felt good to be BACK among the powder burning world again!!!

Glad to hear things are working out for you. Those first ones after surgery are tough to [squeeze] off. Just don't push it as a re injury now can take double time to heal.

I posted my loads on the other thread. Today I brought the 500L, a 454, my 44 Special and a 10mm for some function testing. After paper punching I prefer reactive targets like clay pigeons and beverages. Here is a quick video of the 500L vs soda cans at 25 yards. youtu.be/pPenJBe-GfoHere's another from a while back when I was one handing the same revolver. youtu.be/SIfSlmVa1dERange therapy is the best kind of therapy.
