More with the Krag
Started on the 200yd steel, then to 300 and 400 to work on sight settings.

Criterion has barrels that are threaded, timed, and ready to go. Might be easier than you think.

Today was my first day to shoot an OM 357 converted to 6 shot 41 Mag by John Gallagher. Grips by Cary Chapman. Gun courtesy of Robb Barnes. Target from Fowler. It was late so I only made it out to 50 yards. The 41’s just barely move the target. I think it weighs around 60 lbs so I guess that’s ok. Makes a satisfying gong sound each time!! Thanks Robb! Tim

My new Christmas gift which is a Ruger 44 Mag. Bisley hunter. Sixshot shot it also and took a picture. Nice handgun for sure!

I'd had a long slide Lyman 48K for the Krag that's been passed down from when it was bought as surplus after WW1
Uncle David's grandfather, Barton had slimmed it down and set it up for a long and productive life of service in the woods and mountains of California getting deer and bear.
The 1896 rear sight never gave POI at POA with any load I'd put through it, but at "all the way down" the Lyman 48 aperture still framed the front sight above the '96 sight blade at battle zero.
I'd figured I'd have to make a different front blade.
Last night I finally tidied up the inletting for the 48k and loaded ten Sierra 180 Gameking bullets on 42gr H4350 in WRA 31 Bass (for those nostalgic feels) for a guessed 2100fps
I got out this morning before the wind and sat down for a look at the 100yd steel through the small flip aperture of the Lyman sight.
Touched one off for a POI at POA
Not a bad way to start the day.

Just got back out to time that load.
Chronograph says 2088fps. Pretty close to my 2100fps guess.
Moved over to see the 400yd steel. Guessed the values on the sight at 0.8 of what was there due to the 25" barrel on this rifle, looked at a calculated ballistic chart, corrected an elevation adjustment for the sight radius (gave the sight 16moa) and held about 4moa for the breeze for a solid impact on the 9"x15" target.
Not bad.

Today I tried another load for this Horvath built S&W Model 28 rechambered to 41 Special. Gun and holster again courtesy of Robb in Oregon. The load was a 250 gr GT Bullets cast hollow point over a full, uncompressed case of Trail Boss. Worked just fine. Took the picture after official sunset but it came out reasonably well. Tough to get good pictures of ivory and blue. Tim

Great looking revolver. Super deep hollow points!
Looks like you could use them as shot glasses.

Got lazy and had some factory 45 ACPs that I'd accumulated over time. 3 1/2" round but M97 with .45 ACP Aux cyl. Every time I take this out, I'm reminded how much fun it is. Shot some steel - 25 yd plate rack out to 70 yard half popper. Great day! FWIW, Paul

Krag. Confirmed zero at 100, then 400, then to steel at 650 yards. Five for five at 650 yards. The Malcolm 6x scope on dovetail blocks tracks perfectly.
