Son and I shot our first long range 22 rifle match today. Started at 100,150,200,250,300 yds on steel 4 in to 12 in plates. Wind is not your friend with the 22. Scope ran out of elevation adj.at 250 yds. and the power, 3.5 x 10 isn't quite enough . Shot my Cricket pistol after the match at 100 and 150,I should have used it the whole match [LOL] but 4 power for sure ain't enough anymore..Kept all shots with the pistol on the 4 in plate at 100 and 6 in plate at 150 only two distances I shot with the pistol.Had a very good time. I HOPE I NEVER GET to old to try a new shooting game, won't replace my pistols but fun and a challenge, won't be my last, GOOD LORD WILLING. Never be to old to play,or afraid to try.

I have a TAC-14 Hardwood as well that I won in a raffle. It was always something I considered ridiculous and would have never spent my own money on. But now that I own one, it probably gets more range time than any other gun I own as it's just pure fun. I actually got it cerakoted since I figured why not, it didn't cost me anything anyway, lol. Anyway, got it out to the range today along with my 500 JRH BFR. Tested out 440 WFN GC Matt's bullets over H110 and Lil Gun. Didn't get any range pics, but obligatory pic of the TAC-14 from May: They are a ton of fun and formidable too. I thought about cerakoting mine too. I was thinking about a pirate/blunderbuss theme. The TAC 14 with magnum 00 Buck would be a bad day if you were on the wrong end of it.

It's one of those bathrooms where the throne is in it's own little closet spaced areas and it's out of site unless you're in there doing your business. I figure if anyone is ever going to break in, it would certainly be when I am most indisposed.

I used to be on a SWAT team and we would go to the junk yard (outside the city limits) and with the owners permission we would shoot car / truck doors, windshields, etc. with a styrafoam head in the drivers seat to simulate a bad situation gotten worse. Being a new duck hunter, I had a three inch load of #2 steel in my truck. We had a Honda we could shoot the windshield out of at around 18 yards and that load of steel really jacked that windshield up without giving significant (read zero) penetration. Even the duct tape we had sticky side out over the head's eyes only had one piece of glass stuck to it that we could tell. One round does not guarantee a definitive result, but it did give us another idea to keep in the toolbox. Remember police officers need to worry about more than just stopping a threat; hence the test. Hard to evade arrest when you cant see through the windshield.

.44 Magnum S&W 69 2.75” barrel. 240 grain XTP and 240 grain Winchester HSP bullets. Both bullets loaded with 10.2 grain CFE-Pistol starting load, and also with an 11 grain CFE-P load. Winchester LP primers, Starline brass. All shot quite well at 25 yards standing. I kept things pretty informal/anecdotal/ no evidence photos... paper plate targets with a painters tape bullseye. Accuracy was basically equal between the XTPs and the Winchester bullets at this range. Roughly 2” 5 shot groups every time at both charges. I did shoot two groups that opened up to apx 3” courtesy of flyers from my poor skills.
These are good results for my skills, especially standing, with a short barrelled gun.

Today I shot rattle cans of paint at a new AR500 Wesco target, hand delivered by Mr. Bill Fowler. My thanks for the delivery! The son of a gun weighs a bunch! About all this old guy could manage to carry from the shop down to the range. Tomorrow I'll mess up the paint with some lead markings. Thanks again Bill! Tim

A couple of days ago, Tues., a nephew came over. As mentioned, a large bore salute was sent downrange in memory of Jeff Quinn. I explained to my nephew, who Jeff is, and he said he'd found his way to GunBlast and enjoyed the content and Jeff too. So since he cannot shoot outdoors where he lives he first spent time with his carry G19. Then we took turns with my 4 5/8" 480 BSBH. He got to enjoy a cylinder full of black powder loads, then on to TB loads. Followed by more serious loads, packed for bear. They are the 325gr Speer SP on 23.5grs of Allinat 2400. The clouds of smoke from the FFFG x CCI350 x Missouri Bullets PC'd 340 gr were COOL ! You can smell history when touching off real black powder, well I can.

How much FFFG did you use?

I use the little yellow Lee dippers and do not recall which one at the moment. Do know I wanted to go up a bit and gain more compression, which BP requires. Since bullets are not soft lead with lots of soft lube, crunchiness sets in sooner. You will not be firing long strings of fire. A few cylinders worth, ok.. Use mag primers. I squirrel away small batches of nickel cases to use for BP loads, easier to clean back up and easy to ID the loads.

I'll give the usual warning, even though BP loads are listed in "grs'" this is a measure by volume thing. Beware. As said, compression is needed. No air space can be allowed. "Just touching bullet base" not good enough.
