Just returned from the range after emptying a couple a hundred rounds of .44 special and .44 mags. The weapon of choice today was a much neglected model 29 Mountain gun. It's a hand full with magnum loads and very pleasant with Elmer's specials. I have determined that if I could see as well as the average teenager I would be a dangerous man. The best I could do today was keep all shots in an eight inch cluster at twenty-five yards. Oh well, still a fun afternoon.

This one. 41 Mag 220gr Rainier on top of 7.3gr HP-38. Seems to really like that load. This pic isn't from tonight but pretty much standard fair for this one at 30' off hand unsupported (5 shot groups) if I do my part.

Thanks! I haven't done too much experimenting with loads, but have tried a full case of Trail Boss, a couple of Unique loads, and one with a deep seated cast 220gr Kieth, and all shot very well. Not a bad load in the bunch but so far it seems to like the 7.3gr HP 38 load best. The 220gr Kieth's I tried with 6.9gr HP-38 but they leaded like crazy. Surprisingly accurate, but loaded the barrel up with lead. Couldn't believe how bad it looked inside the barrel given the fact it was still shooting very good groups. Going to try that bullet again with Trail Boss to see if my suspicions are correct that it's a lube issue with these particular bullets of unknown origin.

Light recoil shoots a pinch, pinch and a half ., think I'm going to try sea salt next.

Tried the powder coated Lee 230gr TC at 15 in the XDs before I loaded a couple hundred to make sure the POI was the same as when they were coated in Alox. Once I verified the POI was the same, I loaded a few for more testing.

I haven't shot much lately, but Dick and I got out a couple days ago and sighted in my new AR. While not a handgun it did shoot really well. I guess it is a handgun because I was holding it with both hands! ?

Took my FA83 out for a spin yesterday and some 360 grain Buffalo Bore .454 loads. Managed this five-shot group at 50 yards. I think it's a keeper!

I finally finished shooting up the last of the various .357 Magnum loads I had piled up over the years. Checking thru my stuff, I noted a good number of 327 and 32 magnum "test" loads I had tried during my 32 caliber work earlier this year. I decided to shoot my short guns today, and while I tend to have a bit of difficulty with the short sight radius sixguns, all the shooting I have been doing with my longer barreled sixguns may have been some help. Here is the 327 SP101, which has a green "dot" front sight. This load was a heavy charge of H110 on a 100 grain Rainier plated HP at 26 yards. I also shot my S7 327 a bit with a bunch of different loads. This particular load was a 100 Grain NOE Smokin' Hot 32 GCHP. This is a 3 crimp groove bullet seated out on a charge of 10.0 grains of 2400. Sometimes you can see a trend, and in the 32 magnums, I find the 100 grain bullets on 10.0 of 2400 tend to really shoot well.

Took the BFR in .45/70 out yesterday. I have an old Ultradot 30 on it that I have recycled many times and it just keeps on runnin'. I want to try Double Tap's 300 grain TSX loads on some local wild hogs, so I sighted in with that load. This is the five-shot group I shot at 50, 25, 25, 50, and 50 yards again. I am happy that all rounds impact in the same relative area. Should be a good load.

This morning I shot my .45 Colt Bisley custom with the six-shot oversized cylinder. I was shooting 335 grain WFNs over a stiff charge of 296. This is a six-shot group at 25 yards. I had to borrow the Bowen Target sight off of it for another revolver, so I put a Ruger rear sight on it temporarily.
