A few days ago we successfully used one of my 44spec rice loads to kill a stink bug in the kitchen. Shot it right off the storm window in the side door. The key to shooting off of some of the more fragile surfaces is to shoot at an angle to the surface said varmint is on, so it is "swept" off into oblivion and not smashed back into the fragile surface. The Elmers coated wad that sits on top of the payload is the most potentially damaging portion of the load. Shot was from 8ft or so. Much more fun than a fly swatter or a kleenex and a flush.

In 44spec and larger cases, 3grs of Bullseye or your equivalent. I'd drop down in 38/357 hulls and such.

Loaded another dozen of the rice loads in 44spec yesterday. If you find yourself stuck in the outhouse with a wasp or three, they are just the thing. I hate using chemical sprays inside ! I need to work on some for the 480 soon, and some shotshell, snake loads. Ole Walter doesn't have wads in .475 bore size, so the search is on for a suitable wad, card material.

Ok, now in 480 Ruger, used thin sturdy cardboard from a 12-pack container..let it go.. I like to use the little yellow Lee dippers for these odd projects. Where I was using the smallest, .3cc for the charge of Bullseye in .44spec, bumped up to the .5cc dipper. Used a 2.2cc dipper for the rice, few kernals extra by hand until just room for top card/wad and a crimp left. Drizzle Elmers glue on top for sealant and stiffener. I use same card/wad on top of powder charge, or 'tween powder and rice if that sounds better to ya. Test shot will be thur am.. Gotta find a suitable sacrificial varmint !

Bulasteve I played with rice and shot loads in the 500 on bottom dacron works and for the card on top, I used part of a donut box. Then for sealant you can use a little nail polish, or the primer sealant, ( cost is higher) I like these better than Elmers glue. I put a barely I mean tiny crimp. I used some Titegroup for powder. had fun Made shotshells for 44 and 500 used them to kill squirrels. Used a propane torch once to kill flies. The kind with those instant igniters. I have been told I need Adult supervision.

10 minutes on the 1050 spit out the 100 rounds of 45 ACP I wanted for today. Magnus 200 grain SWCs, Federal primers, 4.0 grains of bullseye, and mixed cases...

Has anyone tried a deck of playing cards to make Wads? Ream a case neck and drill out the primer hole and use it to cut the wads out of the cards.

Would guees the playing card material would work as well. Another option, thanks ! I've used the opaque plastic from gallon milk jugs too. Since I'm thinking CCI/Speer might not be making 480 Ruger/475L shotshell loads or capsules, a shotshell will be the next project for the 480 here. Think I'll go visit the CCI/Speer website and be sure.

The 480 Ruger rice load works ! Nicely shredded paper towel, say 2/3 of rice marked or holed the paper plate, very minimal damage to the cardboard backer. Doing the happy dance ! Do need to remember to cover the varmint with the sights, no recoil, shoots low. On to shot shells, 9 shot initially. Just cut open some old skeet loads to get the 9 shot. Varmints beware ! Puny varmints ! Who can save you now ? Que up the soundtrack music from Queen..

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 6TCU barrel for my Contender, I started resizing some Winchester 223 brass this afternoon. The weather is starting to brake and I'm getting a itchy trigger finger for my Contender.

Been some folks here unhappy with their dealings with Penn bullets. Can't deny there experiences. Do have Penn 335gr .475 bullets and a SBH to feed. My initial try of 10grs of Unique left me with keyholes and leading. Folks said this bullet needs more velo.. they were not wrong, but I'm choosing to try deepseating and or coating of some kind. I want a light for cal, wide meplat play bullet to play with. So have tried deepseating and 8grs of Unique.. So far, so good, but no idea of velo or pressure, though sure its safe. If someone here has same bullets and such, and chrono...like to know ?
