Tyrone, if I remember correctly you had a Vaquero 45 with you on that trip & it shot lights out, one of the best shooting sixguns I've ever fired.

Shhh Dick,,, that one is trying to pass it's gene's off to a few others in the safe! I knew it shot well, but it didn't shoot to point of aim. It has since been "corrected" a bit. Thanks to your assistance in confirming my group placement.

I "blame" this thread for my newest acquisition: A well used but not abused Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 10.5" barrel made circa 1985. It came with a cheezy B-square "no gunsmithing" scope mount that I quickly discarded. An evening's dig through my parts boxes turned up a rear sight from another Super Blackhawk and a proper front sight whose presence in my parts box I can't quite explain. One reason never to get rid of anything, I guess  Took it to the range today and got it sighted in. With the rear sight cranked all the way down I shot a 4" group at 50 yards off the bench with my standard 44 Magnum light load of a 240gr Oregon Trail bullet over Trail Boss powder. Not bad, I think, considering I'm sorely out of practice. Next step is to load up some 220gr Sierra's over H110 or Lil' Gun. I've been wanting to try out silhouette shooting and I think this gun is just the ticket. Should be fun. Before reading this thread a few weeks ago I hadn't thought about a 10.5" SBH in years; soon after reading it, however, I began seeing them everywhere! There was a new one at the local Sportsman's Warehouse, a new one at my favorite local store and then, about two weeks ago, just as I'd come from the theater after watching "Dirty Harry" (playing as part of a classic film series, really cool to see on the big screen) there was this revolver sitting forelorn and forgotten on the used rack of a local shop. $210 out the door I'm happy. ![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a18/oregon45/IMG_1471_zps3068043a.jpg)

I had one of them and got rid of it and got a BFR .500 JRH. mine was fed a steady dose of 340 rimrocks in front of 19.3 grains of H-110. I could push the load further, but it was so accurate at that charge.

You stole it ! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I have an identical one with wood stocks though and a Bowen rear. Shoots lights out. Can't believe that price! Never see those prices anymore

It was a great price, but I did take the photo from the revolvers good side ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) As it came to me it had not only quite a bit of wear but also a fair amount of surface rust. No pitting, but the usual freckling that starts after bluing is worn away. A few minutes with some 0000 steel wool and oil took care of that. The bluing wear is really interesting. In addition to the usual holster wear around the outside of the trigger guard and the muzzle, the bluing on either side, and inside, the trigger guard is worn away. Whoever owned it before me must have shot it quite alot to wear away the bluing inside the guard. There was also the usual light rust up underneath the Pachmayr grips. The condition, combined with its not having the factory sights, would likely have made it a hard sell for anybody without a soft spot for orphaned Rugers, and a box of spare parts at home ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Sounds like someone was shooting with a glove on to wear inside the trigger guard. No problem with that, at least it was getting used. That was a great buy...wanna make a $10 profit!!

Nope, this one is staying in the safe ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Despite the wear on the exterior, after I cleaned the cylinder and barrel the bore and chambers were bright and the rifling was strong.

We have an interesting one in the works. We're converting a NM 357 to a Hawkeye (dad will build the breech-block and make all of the internal alterations). The barrel will be a long 10.5" chambered in 327 Meteor. We're drawing it up now so I have no photos to post. Maybe I'll document the build however if folks are interested in seeing it come together. BTW, there will be small depatures from the original Hawkeye but the function and look will be 90%. -Lee www.singleactions.com
