Go get'em Meathammer! Speaking of the DX guns, I have one in 8 3/8" (doesn't meet your 9" requirement) but its an incredible shooting sixgun. Its scary accurate. I really need to get it out and shoot it more. Trigger is exceptional and the groups it shoots just makes you smile when you walk down to the target! ![](http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/shorty15_9mm/629dxleft.jpg) Here is my long barreled 44 FA when I was visiting with Sixshot up in Idaho back in 09. It was a tackdriver also. It eventually left to go to the Southern Vortex but even moved on from there last year. It has quite a few miles on it ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/shorty15_9mm/100_1325.jpg) This is probably one of the best shooting sixguns I've ever owned. I originally got it in pieces from our buddy Robb up in Oregon. I put it all back together eventually and tweaked it here and there and finally blasted it down. It is an AMAZING sixgun. I bought the FA44 and my buddy talked me out of this one because he was wanting to try handgun hunting. I sold it to him CHEAP under the stipulation that if it EVER left his house, it would go directly back to mine. He will not sell it back, I've tried for years ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) It outshot my FA, was very disappointed when I figured that out. haha On the bright side, I gave my buddy ammo etc and he shot a deer with it at 80 yards the day after he got it from me. He has since killed quite a few more over the past 5 years or so and has really enjoyed hunting with the sixgun so I guess in the end, its all ok ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I grabbed a blued version of this sixgun a few years back and intend to set it up exactly like this one when I'm done. I always preferred blue anyway.... ![](http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/shorty15_9mm/IMG_3072.jpg)

Here is one of my favorites. FA 454. This gun has a BUNCH of rounds through it. Had it rebarreled to this configuration in 2009. Not very many down this tube yet but its a tackdriver. The groups this one will shoot are amazing... ![](http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/shorty15_9mm/100_1965.jpg) Thats a nice FA ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Thats a nice FA ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Thanks. It now has a straight 4x Leupold on it. The 2.5-8 just felt a little big if that makes any sense.

The usual load for deer is a 260 FA jacketed slug over a heathly dose of 296 and it does 1900 from this barrel. It will turn a deer on its side REALLY fast. But the accuracy of that load is astounding. I used to shoo it a lot at 150 yards and the groups it shoots at that distance will make a rifle shooter blush. Currently, I'm thinking of trying something different. This gun has never been picky with loads. With the original 7.5" barrel, it grouped everything in nice little groups. Mainly used the 300 XTP mag back then at about 1615 fps, it worked very well on deer down in Mississippi. I'm thinking of idling the load back a little with a 260 grain slug to about 1500, may even switch slugs as the 260 will become hard to find and at the 1400-1500 fps range, it really isn't necessary. I have a substantial stockpile of them but there's no sense in burning them up for no reason. The idled back load doesn't have near the blast as the full load does and it will do anything I would possibly ask of it. The 1150 fps loads with a 255 pretty much all shoot into one hole and honestly, would handle the majority of my chores without any problem. Either of the lower loads are more pleasant to shoot, the 1150, you barely feel it go off and the gun will appreciate those loads more. When they rebarreled this gun, they tightened it back up, put the newer style firing pin in it, and polished up the action really nicely for me. This FA feels like it runs on ball bearings. It is the last one that will ever leave my safe if I had to part with them for some unfortunate reason ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

How much accuracy do you lose from between a 7 1/2" barrel to a 10" barrel?

I couldn't tell any difference in barrel length and accuracy. Also, the velocity is very similar.
As far as trying the really heavy slugs, If I felt I needed a 405, I'd just use a 475. The Casull was designed around the 260-300.

I've used 400 grain bullets in the Casull and haven't noticed an appreciable gains over 300 -- 360 grain bullets of similar nose profile and hardness.

A close friend of mine stuck a 22" 30 cal rifle barrel onto his Ruger 30 Carbine SA. Had a Burris 6X scope on it. That thing was a hoot to shoot & shot very well indeed. Wish I'd taken some photo's of it...he's since broke it down and put stock barrel back on it. Nice post Dick....I gotta get up there 'n see you one of these days. You get pair of winter croc's yet ?

Most of my long barreled handguns are of the T/C variety. I use a lot of the 14" Supers,, but have several of the 10" ones too. In my revolvers,,, I have very few of them in barrels over 7-1/2" A 10" OM Ruger FT, a couple of the 22 Single-Six's in 9-1/2", and a S&W M-27 in 8-3/8's are all I own. But,,, in the 7-1/2" guns,, I can step up to the plate easily. If y'all study it a bit,, you'll see that no matter what sixshot shoots,,, he will bring home the meat! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Bud, haven't got any winter Croc's yet, I've been wimping out the last few years & sneaking off to Arizona, down there some of those rednecks go bare footed. I know one from North Carolina! Would love to have you come over some time, remember that peach cobbler....
