Sometime we forget how regional our vegetation can be. Brought up "Cutting the okra" in a phone conversation with a West VA forum buddy this morning. Had to explain what okra was. Sure hate it for you guys that don't know. Fried, boiled, pickled... Hard to beat some good okra. Let's get out the skillet and some corn meal and get with it!

I'm an Ohioan, but I love pickled Okra. I don't buy it much these days as- foodwise - it's a bit of a luxury item.

Must confess that it was me who hadn't hear of Okra. Us hillbillies have our ramps and molly moochers each spring which would be somewhat of a regional thing. Good talking to you this morning and thanks for the education.

I remember one year way back, the only thing that grew in the garden was okra but we had a bunch of it. We ate so much okra the dogs even got tried of eaten it.

To me fried in corn meal the only way, I find boiled somewhat nauseating. But to each his own, fried pumpkin blossom, turtle, grits, rice, all regional fare. Cherry tomatoes are a waste BUT Beef Steak are a real meal. Again to each his own.

Fried or stewed with tomatoes! Don't see them up here much though. Had to ask the local grocer to order pickled.

Mother-in-law was from OK, wife loves fried okra, I usually pass on it. But have learned to like grits, and fried green tomatoes, as well as deep fried pickles.

Pickled okra is a favorite condiment of mine with gin and a splash of vermouth. Can't get it down here though.

Target? I knew better than to use that bag... It started with the Paula Dean fiasco...
Goetta? Had to google it to see what it was. Based on google's, "Steel cut oats, ground beef, and ground pork are cooked until thick and soft, chilled until firm, and fried like bacon," it sounds like something I need to be looking for.
