Goetta? Had to google it to see what it was. Based on google's, "Steel cut oats, ground beef, and ground pork are cooked until thick and soft, chilled until firm, and fried like bacon," it sounds like something I need to be looking for. That's our regional food here in the OH/KY/IN tri-state area. It doesn't go far from here. Ask for goetta 50 miles from Cincinnati and they'll stare at you like you've got two heads. Tasty stuff...try it you'll love it !!

I'll take it fried with cornmeal, but boiled no way.....too slimy for me. Have to buy it frozen here in CO....they can't grow it local and you can never find it fresh.

FWIW Okra likes hot weather.. Ours doesn't start making until it starts staying warm all night. That is usually July here in North Alabama. Mine is showing out right now.. Needs to be cut every three days.

What? No bacon? No country ham? Yikes! Don't know I ever had okra for breakfast... Mama told me to cut up my okra, lay it flat and freeze it. When frozen it packs in freezer bags easy. Ready to pull out when the garden slows and the taste for okra remains... FWIW old Tangocharlie has been my best man at two of my weddings. I just might get away with writing stuff that general forum buddies might not~
