Not really sure how to go about this but here goes! I was drooling over the Shootist 35 Anniversary Single Seven in 327, and knew it was never going to happen because I only know a few Shootists and I am not one of them. I did however get to handle one and that made it worse.....
The rest of the story, some time ago through the internet(Single http://Actions.proboards.com) I got to talking with Fermin Garza about six gun sights and he sent me a few, there was a hiccup with screw length on the first ones that were machined and I helped Fermin acquire some screws the correct length. Fermin even sent me one with my initials on the sight!
Over the next several months Fermin and I talked about all types of handguns and shooting and the need for a narrower front sight for us older shooters. I was introduced to Doc Barranti over the phone and eventually Bobby Tyler. Back in April I found out there were a few extra Shootists frames made by Ruger and theses Single Seven Bisley's would be made without the Shootists engraving or Stag grips and would be fitted with a 7.5” barrel. These were to be offered to the Shootists first, then if any were remaining could be offered to outsiders!
Fermin told me to get in touch with Tyler Gun Works ASAP to get on a list, there were three Shootists Bobby was waiting to here from about the remaining Single Seven and he would let me know. I was in Costco and received a call from Bobby Tyler telling me unfortunately the remaining Bisley was spoken for, but if any thing came up he would let me know.
So, I went to my local enabler at Lost Creek Armory here in Bend Oregon ( Tom Lewis owner and also a Shootist) to tell him the bad news and asked to see his again, I thought about slipping it in my belt and sneaking out the door but he is a bit younger than me and can run faster! So I admired it and handed it back to him and went home. A few weeks went by and while coming back from a ride in the desert I got a phone call from Bobby Tyler then right away from Fermin ( who was visiting with Bobby at the time) and was notified there was a Single Seven Bisley with the Shootists prefix in 7.5” with a Tyler Trigger job if I was interested! Are you S- -ting me! Heck yes, man was I excited almost drove off the road.
Just about broke my wrist calling Tyler Gun Works to pay for it and tell them to ship it to Lost Creek Armory in Bend.
Many thanks to Fermin Garza and through his friendship and him introducing me to Bobby Tyler I am the owner of a very special .327 Bisley, no one really knows how special this Bisley is to me. Thanks to John Taffin for having the idea for the Shootists and the special type of folks who they allow into this awesome group of Pistoleros ! Thanks to Bobby Tyler who came up with the extra gun ( I think Fermin told him how special it would be to me) and to Tom Lewis and his friendship of 15 plus years and dozens of gun trades at his shop.
I have shot this .327 and it is a very good shooter, the trigger is the best New Model Ruger Trigger I have shot ( Tyler Gun Works) is is carried in a Tanker Holster made by Tracker Leather from Sisters Oregon, this rig makes it so easy to ride in a vehicle with a 7.5” barrel as well as being east to take on and off. I highly recommend checking one out if you pack often.
Thanks to everyone involved!
