Mine had a stainless hammer when I sent it back for repairs, it returned with blue hammer and trigger. This was in Jan/Feb 2016.

Interesting. I just looked at my flat top Bisley .44 Special, and it has a blued trigger and stainless hammer. Mine was the same way until I sent it back to the Mothership. They returned it with a Blue Bisley hammer and trigger.

The best, and most inclusive I've ever seen is the Modern Gunsmith, by James V. Howe, Vol. I and II. The author was one and the same Howe from Griffin & Howe. Very well done books... +1 I have one of these that was inscribed by the author. Found it on a bookshelf in an antique store. This book is definitely a source for tools, methods and design. (Way above my pay grade)

While I was at Smith & Wesson, I saw them "adjusting" the frame/barrel area. The worker had a lead rod, about 1" in diameter, and maybe 14" in length, with a rubber bicycle grip on one end. He examined the gun with the crane and cylinder in place, then took that lead "hammer" and gave it a WHACK! He hit the gun hard enough that the imprint of the rib was left in the lead. Gun was O.K. then. Gives a whole new meaning of being "out of whack." Bob Wright Brownells still sells babbitt bars for just such a purpose. www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/handgun-tools/crane-tools/babbitt-bars-prod1250.aspx

I spoke to a nice lady yesterday about an order and she said the sights were being assembled and should be ready in a couple weeks.

The M69 seems like an improved 696 albeit in 44 mag rather than 44sp. I can't imagine my 696 with full magnum loads. But, if they would introduce a five shot 41 magnum, now that would be something worth having.
