Here is a picture of the parts used to make my Horvath Lil' Ruger 41 magnum. As you can see, keeping the rollmark for the caliber is entirely dependent upon the barrel you start with and the length of the finished barrel. Since you would be leaving the front sight ramp intact just measure back from the muzzle to the desired length. In my instance, the four inch barrel was not long enough to include the rollmark. If I went with a 5 1/2" barrel it may have worked. This is what I ended up with

My discussions with the Ruger tech were essentially what Alaskan454 stated. When I originally received the revolver there was noticeable binding of the hammer against the grip frame. I believe that contributed to the problem. My hope is that with proper clearences established the problem has been resolved.

UPS came today and dropped off my 44spl Bisley Flattop This is the second time I sent it back for a broken pawl. Hopefully, this time is the last. In both instances the pawl broke while I was cycling the action, not while firing it. I sent it in on 11/9/17 and spoke to the technician Monday morning (11/13/17). We discussed the issue and how it occurred in the same fashion each time. He indicated that it was not an unheard of problem and believed he knew how to correct it. He was a very nice gentleman, more than eager to make sure I was happy. He indicated that after the repair was made he would have them put 50 rounds through it to make sure everything was in proper order. One of the reasons that I requested to I speak to them before any repairs were made is the last time it was in they replaced the hammer, trigger, pawl, gate spring as well as repairing the pawl hole in the frame. I wanted to make sure they were not going to replace the hammer and trigger again. When I sent it in the first time it had a stainless hammer and trigger but returned with blued parts. I was determined that it would return with the same blued parts. Not only did it come back with the blued parts, they also returned my after market springs. A quick examination shows everything to be in order although the trigger pull can only be described as robust. Hopefully I can get to the range this weekend and she how it shoots.

I've been happy with my Burris 2x, close to 30 years with no problems.

The cylinder will not accept a 220gr Keith SWC in a magnum case, it is just a little bit too long. However, the same bullet in 41 Spl brass fits just fine. My plan is to use the 41 Spl loading for general purposes and a 250gr WFNGC in a magnum case for a "heavy" load. I think max OAL is probably 1.62"

I’ve been studying pictures and reading everything I could find in an effort to gain insight and knowledge before embarking on this journey. Of course, somewhere along the way I picked up copies of Single Action Sixguns, Big Bore Sixguns and Book of the 44. Next came “The Custom Revolver” by Hamilton Bowen. I studied, and I studied some more. As I pondered the seemingly endless combinations from which to choose I always came back to the same thing, my very own Perfect Packin’ Pistol. Try as I might, the three 44 Specials in the safe are close, but not quite perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade my S&W 696 for anything. And my Flat Top Bisley is a terrific companion in the Pennsylvania deer woods. But they’re not Perfect Packin’ Pistols. At least, not to me. Some time ago I started to collect parts, sometimes based on a vision, sometimes on a whim. First came the Bisley grip frames, hammers and triggers. Then I happened upon an Anniversary .357 Blackhawk. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it but I knew I had to have it….just in case. Things really started to take shape when I acquired an S&W M57 barrel from a member here. Then came the delivery of my Rough Country sights. Finally, I had all of the pieces, but what to do? No more excuses. It was time go. So I packed up the parts, pointed my Harley west and headed out for LaGrange Ohio and Andy Horvath. I decided that a Li’l Ruger in 41 Magnum was my Perfect Packin’ Pistol. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Because I was using a ribbed barrel, there was a certain amount of welding and contour work needed at the frame/barrel junction. I was a little concerned about whether the XR3-RED grip frame would mate well with my XXXL hands so I brought a set of Bisley parts with me just in case But they were not needed. The rounded aluminum plowhandle fits my hand perfectly and the reduced weight is a welcome benefit. For my eyes, the Bowen Rough Country sights are hard to beat. Very compact but with a superb sight picture. A Super Blackhawk hammer rounds out the package, lowering the hammer spur just enough to make for a comfortable reach. The trigger pull is a work of art, clean, crisp break with none of the typical Ruger creep. Overall, I couldn't be happier. Now I just need to find some gunleather.

Really ? A Horvath Custom gun deserves a real thread elsewhere than the highjack subforum. No worries, details to follow as soon as I can get some pictures taken that aren't from a cell phone.

So does anyone have a theory as to why Hornady used "45 Long Colt" in that manual? It's a head scratcher to me. Here's another one.... 45 ACP or 45 Auto?? The same Hornady Manual lists 45 ACP which is actually the 45 Automatic Colt Pistol which shoots the 45 Auto. Not to be confused with the 45 Auto Rim ok, let the games begin According to the Colt website the Government Model is available in caliber ".45 ACP"

My thinking on this is why bother with the smaller pins? If a .357 won't pass do you really care how small the hole is? Whether it's .353 or .355, you still need it to be .3575 or greater.

I've been thinking about the 7.62x40WT lately. Seems like it would make a nice deer/hog combo.

Now I was pretty sure those were a large frame? Am I wrong? The one I owned sure seemed large. You are correct, the 41 Flat Top was a large frame just like the 44.
