I'm thinking of getting a new upper for my Bushmaster. I want something with a little more punch than the .223. My first thoughts were 6.5 Grendel,6.8 SPC,300 Blackout. Is there any others calibers that would be a good choice?

What you you like to be doing with this caliber? The 300BO is a fairly short round deer cartridge, but especially useful with suppressors, or as a really reliable replacement for pistol calibers in an AR, some friends of mine use the Grendel as their primary coyote rifles, plus it's a decent deer cartridge to boot. There are also heavy calibers like the 458 SOCOM, 50 Beowulf, and a ton of specialty calibers. I think my next one will be done in 30 HRT. It's a rimless 30 Herret, loaded to slightly higher pressures to make the ARs function properly. The 30 HRT can use cut down 30 Remington cases, but 6.8 SPC cases work well and are more available.

I've got an 18" 6.8SPC. Very accurate & hard hitting round. I'd started out wanting a 6.5G, but everything "Grendel" seems to up the price considerably & I'm not sure why.
Also have a 10" .300BLK SBR that is both accurate & fun to shoot, but doesn't pack near the heat of the 6.8 or 6.5.
.458SOCOM or .450Bushmaster would be fun, but ammo is $$$. There are some very cool wildcats out there, several of which use a special bolt for the .308/6.5x47 case that they're based on & said bolt is currently unobtainium.
I got such a great deal on stripped lowers when I built the SBR, that I picked up a "spare". Seriously thinking about building a .358MGP with it. 6.8 based .358 wildcat. Easily shoots 200gr at 2400fps, so essentially a .35Rem in an AR15 platform.

I've been thinking about the 7.62x40WT lately. Seems like it would make a nice deer/hog combo.

I've been exploring something for long range shooting and considering a .260 rem, but not many offer that caliber.

.25 wssm in ar15. Just about .25-06 performance. Mice to Mulies at least. Of.course you could go .260 or even 6.5 Creedmore, but in ar10'sized package.

I want to stick with a standard AR-15 so any of the .308 case rounds would be out. They are my favorite family of cartridges though. I'm not really looking for a long range gun just something with a little more punch out to 200 yards or so but probably not much more that 100 yards on average. I want it for a house gun and maybe some deer hunting around the house. Longest shot would be 150 yards. I want to be able to shoot it a lot so that is why the .300 BLK was appealing to me. since .223 brass is plentiful.

With those limitations investigate more into the 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC. They might be just right for your wants.

A 16" .300BLK would do that just fine & the ammo would definitely be cheaper.
The 6.8SPC would do those things even better & packs a whallop on ~200lb thin-skinned mammals out to 400yds. It's a kickass chambering, but the initial buy-in's gonna be more expensive.
