Years ago shot a friends DW 445 with a scope, don't recall the magnification. Do recall thinking I'd take dramamine before trying that again ! Now 20 years or so lately am thinking a handgun with optics a likely thing. So, lately a 44mag Hunter followed me home, sans rings. I hear and see of folks liking their Leupolds but am gonna ask whats out there thats a bit less expensive ? Fixed power, 2 or 3 power ?

What's price range your looking for? I prefer a fixed 4x on my 44s.

Leupold is the only scope I use on any heavy recoiling handgun...They're definitely worth the extra expense.

I went thru some time comparing Extended Eye Relief (EER) scopes for handguns. I needed the longest EER available because I shoot mostly benchrest with straight extended arms. Most scopes want you to get your eye too close to that scope for my tastes.
I would have gone for a 4X or 8X Leupold, but could not find one. I have a couple of 2X and they are magnificent. I however really liked the Bushnell Elite 3500 2-6 X 32. 352632(s for silver) I paid $262.
I tried it out last week on my Ruger Bisley Hunter 45 Colt. I have a tough time getting a full 6X without fighting the ghost ring around the outside. 5X seems to work beautifully. The EER may be the longest of any out there.

Sigh, was afraid the cheap is too expensive thing was gonna come up. If this is one of those ya get what ya pay for things, it'll just have to take a bit longer to get it I suppose. Thanks guys. Do want lots of eye relief, it is possible this scope could end up in a scout mount on the M94 Marlin 44mag.. Though that may not be longer from eye than the over the barrel, Hunter ?

I have a number of Burris handgun scopes, from the fixed 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 7x to variables in 1.5-4x and 2.5-7x persuasions. All have done the job. For a hunting revolver I prefer a 2x.

Thank You ! Little scope experience here in the woods of N.E. Ohio. My only scoped firearm a Winchester made Enfield in 30-06 left to me by an Uncle. Have gotten a couple deer with it in Penn..

I've been happy with my Burris 2x, close to 30 years with no problems.

I've yet to kill a 2x Weaver. The Leopold and Burris 2x models also great.

I like my Leup. 2x as well as 4x, I have also been using a Burris 2-7x with good success. I have a Silver Leup. 2x I’d part with if you’re interested.

Lots of scopes will fill your needs, as long as they are 2X Leupolds. They can also often be found on the used market, in excellent condition.

Out here in the west where shots can get stretched a bit I'd say Leupold 4X then Leupold 2X then any of the fixed power Burris scopes up to the excellent 5X. Had my 4X Leupold on 2 bull elk yesterday morning but couldn't drop the hammer, season was closed & I was looking for their girl friends who had just made it into the timber, bummer. It was too dark for iron sights.
