have asked for multiple photos...my inclination is to keep the ivories and sell off the 624...but then again, my Sweetie says I'm incapable of actually selling a gun...THANK YOU!

Oddly, I've been offerred a .44-Special 624 4-inch, engraved ( I assume factory, but maybe not) with elephant ivory Magnas. Never holstered; 50 rounds through it. What might be a general consesus on price? ? Wasnt really looking for a new .44 Special right now...but... Michael B

We're thinking of filming a musk ox hunt in Greenland at the suggestion of Ivan Carter. I thought a 45-70 might fit the bill pretty well. I could scope the Guide Gun, but the Winchester is beautiful. Conversely, I have had for a decade or so a Marlin Cowboy in .44 Magnum...with Garrets, that might get me there.
Thoughts?

if you want to turn that '73 into a real heartbreaker, I uncondtionally recommend Ken Griner at Griner Gun Works. Mine is now one of the best, smoothest, mose accurate lever guns I own...and as you know I have a few! LOL! It's slicker thsn my cowboy Uberti, which is at more thsn 30k rounds (and is on it's 3rd bolt, BTW).

Same experience on the Taurus. My father gave me one ages ago because he said it was a POS. Worst trigger I've ever seen on a DA gun. It laid around the safe for years, but one day on a whim I had Jim Stroh redo the trigger, round the butt ( which isnt any kinda standard size, BTW) and in general clean the gun up Stroh said trigger a "challenge."
I shot the gun against my M-24, a custom Bowen "Mountain Gun" .44 Soecial, and a couple of the SAs. The Taurus out-grouped them all. Surprised the hell out of me!

i started writing the script for GUN STORIES WITH JOE MSNTEGNA's new season. We're doing a show on embellished firearms, and it got me thinking about my infinitely long delayred BBQ gun project.
Years back I had Hamilton Bowen build me a 38-40 N-Frame on an As New In Box Highway Patrolman, which we filmed for SHOOTING GALLERY. Plan was engraving, carved leather holster, ivories. obviously, I missed the ivory train, but am looking for an engraver now that Dan Love's out of the business.
you guy's recommendations"
thanks!

Sorry guys...I was going to write this one up after SHOT, especially since I had Hamilton build the the exact same gun a few years back and I have one of the .44 Special versions with a lot of round through it.
Not a good couple of weeks for gunwriters. Knee surgery the Monday after SHOT went south...am laid up in bed with machine that circulates freezing cold water around my right knee. In rigid cast and only allowed to stand "when necessary." " Necessary" apparently doesn't incle rounding up my bird's heads.
Surgeon appt Monday to see whether another surgery is necessary.Nonetheless, I gotta film. That's how I get paid. Booked range & crew for 16 Feb in an act of faith.
Prayers for Brother Jeff...

Gun shot real well for me with .357s...trigger is outstanding, as is the finish. Sights are replaceable, and I liked the recessed cylinder. Grant Cunningham had a lot of input into the gun, and Grant knows his stuff.
Funny true story...after I shot the gun a bit I was talking to a young gun blogger who was really enthused. Can you believe, he said, that Kimber was able to get 6 -- 6!!!!!! -- .357s in a steel snub? I said offhandedly, "Like a 21st Century Dick Special." That drew a blank look. "you know," I said. "a Detective Secial, the Colt?" Colt made snub nose revolvers, he asked?
Sheriff Jim,Wilson suggested we supply a required reading list..

Just like to say that Clements built the single most accurate SA I own, an old Wyoming cowboy flattop .357. My father had died recently, and his flattop .357 ended up in the hands of people who didn't, and still don't, deserve it. So I got the idea to restore the old thumbuster as a sort of homage to my Dad. I told Dave I wanted the gun dead nuts accurate and hang the cost. He line bored it, replaced everything that could be replaced and hand-fitted everything else. At a Gunsite SA class I took with my pal Gary Paul Johnson, from the 15 yard line on a timer I put 5 Hornsdy 125JHPs into a single ragged hole, arguably the best group I ever fired offhand under pressure.
It is one of my treasures.

I thought it might help round out the family. Years back I had Hamilton build me s gun just like that, except blue with Turnbull doing the finishing. I was actually surprised at how well it shot with midrange loads. Looked good with my 44 Special birdsheads, too...an Uberti, a USFA and the RUGER Sheriff's a Model. When I got the new Ruger, my inclination was to shoot it some and pack it on back, but it's kinda changing my mind. Be neato sandblasted gray, sort of pre-distressed like a Triple-Lock Imsaw that had laid out in the desert for decades. A little Rob Leahy Magic and some Wolfe springs, and who knows what I'd have?

I have Taurus .44 Special that easily had the worst trigger pull I'd ever felt on a factory gun. Since it was a gift from my father, who knew I had a thing for .44 Specials, I decided to put more money in it than it was worth. Jim Stroh did the work, including a "comprehensive" action job and rounding the butt. Turned out to be one of the most accurate .44 Specials I own. Go figure.
I have one of the non- Thunder Ranch 21s, another Jim Stroh project, and it is a sweet shooter. My favorite is a .44 Special S&W "Mountain Gun" 5- shot built for me by Hamilton Bowen before the 69s came out. Super packing gun!
The Bulldog that I have is a Mag-Na-Port custom version. Oddly enough, I busted the electric green plastic front site blade off it a while back. I contacted Mag-Na-Port to see if they had a replacement laying around -- I know they don't make that version anymore. I got a response that they didn't think the Bulldog was a Mag-Na-port gun, and could I please take a picture so they could verify it. Gee, I never saw a green blade front site that wasn't a Mag-Na-Port...so I took a picture of the site blade and the Lasered Mag-Na-Port logo and sent it to them. Never heard another word. Finally had a pretty talented local guy flat file an S&W front blade to fit the notch and pin it in. I like the little gun. Got some Eagle "Secret Service" grips for it...harder to hang onto, but easier to conceal...

Shoots nice, which I would expect.. Didn't too any formal shot for group, but it was no problemo on my 20 & 25 yard plates. I'd I seem ambivalent, I'm not sure Id shoot it enough to warrant adding it to the collection. I have a 617 10-shot built by Apex Tactical we used on SHOOTING GALLERY a couple of seasons ago, plus my Single Sixes and an old S&W Kit Gun that stays in the "get me home" bag. May come down to price...

I've got a lot of mileage on my 4-inch Redhawk and I love it....Simply Rugged pancake or Ted Blocker shoulder rig for hiking ( it's grumpy bear season here at the Secret Hidden Bunker)...Garrett heavies for the season. I don't like to run the heavier bullets through my Smiths. BTW, my experience with the locks is the problem crops up in the light frame/heavy bullet combo. Had a 329 that couldn't get through a cylinder-full of Buffalo Bore 255- trainers...
