Rex the Wonder Gun, a 1911 Combat Commander "Cooper-ized" by Accurate Plating and Weaponry back in, like 1980 or so...S&W revolver sights, Millett staked-in front sight, aluminum trigger, Safari Arms beavertail; hard-chromed...I couldn't believe I had $500 in a gun!

+1 on the Sourdough Pancake...a great field holster. Kirkpatrick also made a one-off crossdraw, based on their "Teqiila" cowboy competition holsters, for my Seville ".454 Magnum" that is sweet.

My old Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum with the aluminum frame and Colorado elk stag grips...I've used Atlas snowshoes for years, including on the Alaskan Iditasport 100-mile ultramarathon in February a few years back...swear by them...

Mr. Axe...I spent a year agonizing about that very thing...I'm lucky enough to get to shoot pretty much everything, plus to sit down with some serious gentlemen who were evaluating new 7.62 semis for some of our elite troops. After much hand-wringing, I ended up with a plain vanilla FAL from DS Arms. I liked the FNH FNAR, which is crazy accurate but with expensive proprietary magazines; I liked the M1A SOCOM but agree on the stock...I was surprised at how well the short barrel shot.
I figured the FAL is what it is...debugged technology, cheap magazines, zillions of parts, more accurate than me...

Having a case of .44 Russian in my basement and nothing to do with it, I got this hairbrained idea to build a .44 Mag DA competition revolver, then shoot short Russians, fitted into a full moon clip, in the gun. My theory was that the short Russians should load as fast as .45 ACPs...I forget why I didn't just buy a 625 in the first place. Brain damage probably. So anyway, Randy Lee in California built me this magnificent 629 6-inch fitted with a titanium cylinder machined to accept custom .44 full moon clips...titanium cylinder, because we figured the lowered mass of the cylinder would allow an ultralight, smooth trigger pull, even on the big N-frame. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, everything worked great except that the factory Black Hills Russians were dirty enough to gum up the star...and so was my first reload...and my next reload...etc. The tolerances were just too tight. The gun never had problems with .44 Specials or Magnums...I finally decided that the slightly shorter Russians let too much gunk blow back...or something like that...
I've still got that case of Russians...so I've got these 2 .357 Blackhawk cylinders, and Hamilton Bowen says Russians in Russian-chambered cylinders are SUPER accurate...hmmmmmmmmmm

I think the .30 Carbine's still in the catalog, although that utterly amazes me given how few they sell.
Just dropped a note to FA about buying some brass...

I like the heck out of mine (we'll be posting videos all day on DRTV)...Lee, it reminds me a lot of my Bowen .30 Carbine Blackhawk, but not as LOUD. I've shot a bunch of .32 H&Rs and some of the Federal .327, which is still as scarce as hen's teeth, and the weight tamps it down big time...even with the .327s you can run it like a cowboy action shooting revolver.
My plan is to schedule 2 hunts for our upcoming handgun hunting show with this gun — coyotes and spring turkeys. I'm getting an update on some heavier bullet hunting loads from the guys at Ruger as soon as we can round up components. I've got some Cast Performance .32s I used on hotted up H&Rs.
I wish it had an XR3 gripframe, but I suspect it will eventually...you all know the drill! Gonna talk to Hamilton B. about it this week...

Man, I hate you "enablers"...I never wanted a .357 Maximum before, but now I feel my life isn't complete without one...just missed one from a member last week...
BTW, went to the range today to sight in a new cowboy load in my Long Hunter .44 Special Blackhawks...put a bunch more rounds through one of those new polymer-framed Blackhawks from Ruger (mine is the red gripframe in 7.62 X 25 Toke)...sweet!

Merry Christmas, John, and blessings to your and yours...
Have to say my USFA Double Eagle .44 Special is a keeper (maybe I'll get a second job)...it's quickly become my favorite "Alf the Wonder Beagle Goes for a Hike" gun...was carrying it out in the cold today in a Mernickle high-ride, and it just disappears on the hip. I like it so much it has replaced "Thumper," my ancient Super Blackhawk with the short barrel and aluminum frame that's been a knockaround gun for a couple of forevers. The birdshead grip grow on you. Will probably send the Double Eagle to Bill Laughridge at C&S to get it exactly like I want it.
I'm looking forward to my birdshead TLA copy .44 Maggie 4-inch Vaquero from Mr. Bowen...sights regulated for midrange 1000fps/255 Keiths.
I'll bet USFA'll build you pretty much anything through their custom shop...
