Thanks guys, that birdseye mesquite is hard to come by, making a few sets soon for Clement's customers Indeed. One of those is mine. It will have the Clements round butt grip modification and I bet the grips will look as nice as the one posted above. I'll post pics as soon as I get it back. It'll be a Bisquero 45 Colt, Clements 4 5/8" heavy barrel, Bowen 6 shot long cylinder (or whatever it's called to fill the window), and the rest of the stuff normally done when you spend too much on a revolver.....

I just saw this. I love that area and try to stop by the Caldera every time I have to go to Las Alamos. The first time I saw it was taking the back way from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and came around the corner, so to speak, and saw how huge it was. Makes you just stare. The few times I stopped by, I never saw any elk, but saw plenty of mule deer near White Rock. Nothing at all like South Carolina, but I do love the area. Y'all need to get some more air up there......

I shot again today with mechanics gloves and found that there was too much padding in the wrong places and the fingers are too thick so there wasn't any dexterity. I'll try some batting/golf gloves as I really am trying to keep the skin on my hand. I hate to admit it, but I'll throttle back on the powder too.
It's really amazing how much shooting from a bench can accentuate recoil and/or how much these harder hitting calibers jump.

One of my newest toys has bitten me hard. Maybe it was the way I was gripping it, maybe it was just a stout load, or both. I'm thinking I can help keep it from happening again by a glove.
I have just started shooting this SBH (4 5/8") with a red dot sight and shooting off a good bench rest so I'm sitting up straight and lined up directly behind the revolver. The SBH recoil is up as expected, and that is what got me. The hammer caught a callous on my thumb and peeled it about half way off. I didn't particularly want to bleed on the new JRH grips, so I wrapped a piece of paper towel around it and continued shooting another group. Naturally the next group wasn't as good trying to keep the paper towel wrapped around the thumb.
I'm going to smooth off the sharp edges on the bottom of the hammer in the morning, and was just curious on a good quality glove too.

I will put a red dot sight on it. I've put one on a Ruger/Williams 45 Colt and was very impressed with both the accuracy of the handgun and how easy it was to shoot. It isn't exactly pleasing to the eye, but I will vet used to it. With a good set of glasses I can see the front sight well enough still, but with the dot sight, all I have to do is cock the hammer and send it.
Reasons I mentioned the SBH's is because I have more heavy molds in .430", there are more versions available, and a 44 is ridiculously easy to get shooting well. The 357 is also easy to make shoot, but there aren't as many versions available.
There's something about that long barrel on the Silver Hornpipe. I have considered the Hunter model, but I don't really plan to scope it.

It's been a long time since I bought my last Ruger Blackhawk (it was in March 2017, so too long ago) and I'm having a ball having these things show up. I started with the shorter lengths and now want a target only toy for 100 yards and beyond. The shorter lengths, longest being 5.5", handle anything closer. I've just started playing with red dot sights on these and my ability of hitting small steel has gone up immediately. Easier for my aging eyes.
I have 357 and 44 magnum's and a couple 45 Colts. I really think one of the longer length Super Blackhawk's will fit my needs, but the 7.5" or 10.5"? After playing with it for a short period, I bet it will be off to JRH for his grip modification and fine walnut as I flat out don't care for the squared off trigger guard. As much as I don't care for the typical SBH trigger guard on the longer barrel lengths, having a 4 5/8" Super already modded by JRH, I prefer the hogleg modded over a Bisley grip. I consider a JRH modded hogleg just about perfect for my hand. No real interest in a Bisley grip here and I only want it in stainless.
I know neither barrel length is really more accurate than the other, but which is more likely to meet the "best accuracy and fun to shoot" criteria. I'm not terribly concerned with carrying it over mountains and holstering it.
Thanks in advance.

This isn't apples to apples, but many years back I bought a Model 60 357 Magnum with the underlug barrel. Naturally I had to put some Federal 125 grain JHP 357's through it. I compared it to picking on a miniature donkey. Cute as hell, but it still kicked like a donkey. I had to finish the cylinder full and when I seldomly carry it, it's still loaded with the same type ammo. I figure if I miss I'll at least set him/it on fire with the muzzle blast, which is fantastic. Full bloom even in daylight.
I intended to buy the lightweight version (probably the 340 it's been many years ago) but I'm confident that the Model 60 was plenty light enough.
There are more factory ammo types available now than then, so choose your ammo wisely and buy one.

A Lew Horton 624 3". Hasn't been loaded in about 30 years. I still have 38 rounds of the box of Silvertips I bought along with the gun.
I also bought a Remington Model 51 32 acp a dozen or more years back. After losing my mind about 6 times disassembling it to clean it, I put it somewhere in my handgun safe. Well, as it is in extremely good condition, I probably wasn't going to shoot it anyway.
I had an Officers Model Colt 1911 built into a really nice handgun about 25 years ago, and know it's in the same safe as the Model 51 (still haven't shot it).
I have a habit, or sickness, of building some nice toys and then moving on. I probably am the only one on this forum that has been through this...... but then again, I bet some of you make my sickness seem like a runny nose during cold season!
Oops. You said SA. Well, I'm just getting started there, so give me some time to get spooled up and I bet I'll lose a few of them in that same safe.

That's gorgeous! What front sight is that? Not my gun, but I suspect it is a Stroh. Wish they were still available. The profiled base sure is nice to look at. As far as the grip modification is concerned, I just got one back from him. It is a SBH 4 5/8" barrel and after handling it compared to one of my Bisley's, I have to agree with many that the plowhandle grip frame with the JRH mod feels better. It also makes a 4 5/8" 44 Magnum with stout 290 LFNGC controllable. I'm probably will have him do a Bisley grip modification in the very near future. I understand about the shipping and have asked the very same question here before. Get anything you may want done now. If one of my very good friends wasn't also my FFL, it would hurt shipping a handgun. I keep him supplied with good cast bullets and occasionally a bottle of Belvedere Vodka.

JFYI, I shot the red dot sight yesterday and must say I'll be buying more of them. I knew I had accurate revolvers, but what a change the sight made. For some reason the whole dynamics of shooting the Bisley changed. When you can just keep the dot on the aiming point you can spend more time on gripping the revolver. No rapped knuckle.
Right now the steel and paper is set at 40 yards and my 45 Colt Bisley is absolutely killing the 3" steel. There is 1.5", 3", 6", and 12" steel targets set up. Due to having not enough time and ammo for this revolver, I didn't mess with the 1.5" steel. It's actually my 600 yard rifle range, but the steel doesn't mind.

very nice. what kind of mount for the burris fast fire? There is a guy over on Ruger forums that sells them. Fits very well, but I don't know how it will all work until I get some rounds down range tomorrow I hope. While I'm not old, I'm not young anymore either and irons, regardless of quality, are getting harder to focus on. I'm just trying something different to see how it works. As far as the red dot sights are concerned, I don't particularly care for the looks, but if it works as I hope, I'll live with the wart on the beautiful lady's face.

I agree about both the grips and sights. Both of these revolvers see some heavy loads, and especially the SBH needed something done as it was a beast with magnum loads. They both have their original barrels and the cylinders haven't been touched as I got lucky on throats and no barrel constriction. In short, they both shoot very well. I did change springs, polished the guts, pay Belt Mountain their cut, Bowen rea
I have a 45 Colt Bisquero at Clements getting just about everything done to it. Before I pick it up, it will visit Scott Kolar for some more of the "birds eye" Mesquite also. I think it will be a piece from the same knot or tree as the revolver above.
