One of my newest toys has bitten me hard. Maybe it was the way I was gripping it, maybe it was just a stout load, or both. I'm thinking I can help keep it from happening again by a glove.
I have just started shooting this SBH (4 5/8") with a red dot sight and shooting off a good bench rest so I'm sitting up straight and lined up directly behind the revolver. The SBH recoil is up as expected, and that is what got me. The hammer caught a callous on my thumb and peeled it about half way off. I didn't particularly want to bleed on the new JRH grips, so I wrapped a piece of paper towel around it and continued shooting another group. Naturally the next group wasn't as good trying to keep the paper towel wrapped around the thumb.
I'm going to smooth off the sharp edges on the bottom of the hammer in the morning, and was just curious on a good quality glove too.

Thanks for the link. I'll jump on a pair of the Pro-Aims.

I would suggest ignoring anything that said shooting glove.
I am still in love with the fingerless weight lifters gloves from Walmart. Perfect padding and very very soft. I can't shoot with gloves that make my fingers stiff and interfere with a good grip.
These are perfect and inexpensive (under $10)

I have a tough time with shooting gloves because of the padding in the wrong places for me. I use a batter's/golfer's glove and then put adhesive tape where I need it and as thick as I need it.

I shot again today with mechanics gloves and found that there was too much padding in the wrong places and the fingers are too thick so there wasn't any dexterity. I'll try some batting/golf gloves as I really am trying to keep the skin on my hand. I hate to admit it, but I'll throttle back on the powder too.
It's really amazing how much shooting from a bench can accentuate recoil and/or how much these harder hitting calibers jump.

I have been using ProAims for years now and highly recommend them.

I use Troy Lee Designs off road gloves. They have minimal padding in the palm of your hand, and adequate protection on the back side. The fingers have a very thin leather, so trigger feel is excellent.
