Couldn't stand it any longer.....I bought it. Now I wait for my FFL holder to call me to pick it up. Pictures to follow.

My wife has Ok'd my choice for my 30 years of active duty retirement gift.
My choice is a 500 Linebaugh, on a blued Ruger Bisley. Final gun finish is blue and case colored, 5 1/2" banded barrel, Bowen rear sight, white micarta grips(by Dustin...not matter who builds the gun).
I have spoken to John Linebaugh on the phone multiple times since about 1993 and feel a sense of loyalty to him but I have been to Dustin's home a number of times and his work is great. Hamilton Bowen's work is without peer from a technical standpoint.
Money is not the deciding issue although a week ago I thought I would have to buy a FA gun because I had a self imposed ticket price. Who would you choose and why?

My youngest boy has grown out of these. Only 2 years of wear. They are in very good condition. Soles look new. I should have just bought stock in White's We paid $305 with my military discount. Asking $125 shipped.

The "Old Model" Vaqueros, the large frame ones, are beginning to become scarce. I have not seen many, if any, for less than $500 and I look almost everyday.
The new small frame ones are plentiful and nice but I am plotting a Dustin Linebaugh 500L on a stainless Bisquero.
I ended up selling one of the old model ones, blued and mildly customized by Dustin Linebaugh to 2 Dogs last year and have been kicking myself in the butt ever since.

Catalog 3(the last one) had them on special so I called. I believe they were right around $600.

Is anyone shooting and loading for these? Having recently handled one I think I like the smaller frame.
I was thinking one of these(satin finish) with David Clements S&W fixed rear sight-front sight combo shooting a 270 grain WFN at about 900-1000 FPS would be approaching(for me) the Perfect Packing Pistol.
Does this sound reasonable? I have no experience loading for the older Colt strength SAA.

Thanks for the replies. 3 dot white sights are easier to see for me too.
I have "reading glasses" but at distances farther than about 5 feet things get blurry. I guess I need to quickly put my reading glasses on after I identify my target!
I will talk to the Eye Doc to see what we can come up with.

Spent the weekend shooting. I had the privilege of shooting a friends 475 Bisquero and 45. Colt Bisley Vaquero both by Dustin Linebaugh. The barrel length was 4 5/8s on both guns. I had a real problem seeing and front sight clearly.
I had my 49th birthday this month and it seems like my near vision has gone down hill at a high rate of speed. At a distance vision is still better than 20/20.
What do you other mature shooters do to remedy this?

Thanks. I had forgotten about the Galco SAO. I see them online for 65-100 dollars. The FA holster is 69. I'll see if bass pro has the galco to save on shipping.
Other wise the FA leather might be good and inexpensive. I have the Milt Sparks 200 AW on order but it's 6-9 months back order now.

Will a FA holster fit a large frame Ruger single action of the same barrel length?
Thanks
