7.5" is the rarest length for the 44 Magnum Flattop. If you can get it for a reasonable price, I'd jump on it!

You goofed alright! It's been a long while since I've bought a nice one at that price... Not to mention, those early Single Sixes are GREAT little shooters!

Whoever was just on the phone with Hamilton, you saved me See avatar He says they got a couple dozen barrels and will be offering that conversion as a catalog item for your gun. Thanks for sharing that information! I would MUCH rather have one built up on a Super Redhawk anyhow.

Contender, you did WHAT with $1600.00 ? Not at all unreasonable & one of the better investments for the serious Ruger collector.

Doesn't the aluminum get dull ( oxidize ) quickly??? I did similar with a Rohm zamak gun several years ago, and while not "aluminum" it polished up nice, but got dull within a month, during the summer months I do like my polished stainless though Nope, it has never tarnished in the slightest & neither have any of my other's whether they were polished or just given a brushed finished with Scotch Brite.

I rescued that little 1958 vintage Single Six from a pawn shop in Colorado where I resided back in the mid 90's, it was in rough shape to say the least! As I recall, I sanded the grip frame down with Emery cloth & polished it with my Foredom & a cotton wheel loaded with diamond compound.

I believe the current one's are powder coated, which seems to be less durable than anodizing in my experience. I'm a fan of the Two-Tone look so many off mine get stripped & polished....It's just easier than touching them up every so often.

Grip frame shape is a highly subjective matter, Keith liked to put the brass Dragoon style grip frame he talked Bill Ruger into putting on the Super Blackhawk on many of his guns. Some guys really love it, others like myself absolutely DESPISE it! I don't like the way it feels in my hand, nor the gouging of the knuckle of my middle finger the square trigger guard gives me with stout magnum loads...Therefore, it gets replaced with either a steel Old Army XR3-RED grip frame or, my personal favorite the original aluminum Ruger XR3 grip on all of my Super Blackhawk's.

It'd be an easy decision for me, I hunt down a 1st gen cylinder & barrel in better condition in either 44 WCF or 45 Colt & install them on that frame, & shoot it frequently! Just keep ahold of the old parts as you can always return a Colt SAA to it's original configuration on down the line if you so choose.

Very nice! One just like it in 45 Colt needs to live here with me.
