I have to agree heavily with Mr. Bradshaw, the 44 is a great cartridge and often overlooked these days. In the 83 it really shines.

I run the full spectrum in power but shoot mostly upper end loading of economy powder. After loading the 454 and 480 I've learned to appreciate Longshot for it's reasonably high velocity with half the powder charge of slower magnum powders. I also like to tinker with Trail Boss and Red Dot on occasion, they make for some great plinking loads!

Patdaddy- love the green laminates, you don't see them that often anymore. I like the green laminates as well...

I finally got around to making the proper front sight, came out right around the .400" mark using a factory .440" replacement blade. My original sight was .340" and is bottom out on the rear shooting 340gr bullets, I figure this height should give me proper adjustment for 330-420gr and I can always reduce the height later if needed. I'll clean it up tonight and square up the edges with a stone before bluing. Should look pretty nice on the 480.

That era is my favorite! I'll hopefully get one with a 5" or 6" barrel when the right price comes along.

Thanks for your help guys, after some research it appears I like the later M&P guns before they went to model numbers. A friend of mine had a sizeable collection to help point out the differences for each revision. He even had a few for sale but they were in far better condition than I'd want for a shooter. The action on those older guns is really something.

There are a lot of people who will pay extra to skip the wait for a nice custom or even factory gun. When I got my first FA I wondered the same thing about all of the guns selling for full msrp or more.

After going through a lot of pictures and ideas I'm going to have David do my Bisley along the lines of his Ermine conversion pictured below, I believe this belongs to one of our forum members but I can't remember who. I found the picture in the Custom Bisley Inspiration thread. Differences will be a crescent ejector, Sheriff's style locking pin, scalloped gate and shield, and a FA style round butt with Buckeye burl grips. I'm very excited!
