Montana Bullet Works. Ten designs for the 475-caliber guns. Everything from a 420-grain freight train to a 295-grain deer hammer. And no, they are not the cheapest, but the quality has been excellent every time I've purchased from them.

Better metering fast burners ? I like W231 or HP38 for light loads in the 475. Not sure how fast your TrailBoss loads are running. I ran some when I first got my 475. I figured they were chugging along at a measley 650fps or so. I had to quit using them because they always gave me a case of the giggles. Not a good look when you're the skinny kid on a range full of manly men.

It depends on the cartridge. I don't see it as a necessity in the .357 Magnum and always use mag primers with H110 in the 45 Colt and 475 Linebaugh.

I'm glad I could help.
It looks like that article should be required reading for new owners of the .500JRH. Good stuff for sure.

Hopefully, some find this data of use.
For myself, it wasn't so much about Gold Dots/Deep Curls as it was about powder choice. Having a brand new 475L in my hands, I wasn't so sure about stepping on the gas. I used this Speer data as a guide for my loads with Unique and the 400 grain cast slugs I had on hand at the time.
I didn't want to end up with a bullet lodged in the barrel nor a front sight in my forehead. In the end, my wrists were happy, the gun was happy, and the target happy. What's not to like?

Years ago Speer had downloadable "Data Files" on their website with recipes for a number of handgun cartridges, including some of the more esoteric options (think Linebaugh, Casull, etc.). They've been unavailable for a few years now, but with a quick trip in the Wayback Machine... voila', they're available once again!Link to Old Speer Data FilesAs an aside, there are also a number of old load manuals available via The Wayback Machine too, including Speer, Lyman and Hornady. While a lot of the data is available with a LoadData.com subscription (priceless, if you ask me), the extra instruction and articles in some of those old manuals are an invaluable source of learning that you won't find anywhere else.

Accidentally won a Freedom Arms M83 at auction yesterday (threw a lowball bid at it and it stuck). My question is, does Freedom Arms keep a record of the details of their builds? As in, can I call and find out if the gun originally shipped with a spare cylinder, or received an action job, or whatever?

Lee Martin's 290 LFN might be of interest - singleactions.proboards.com/thread/15112/405-win-290-martin-lfnIf cut for linotype, like Lee's, it'll probably run a bit heavier in your alloy. I know my Martin 475 cal. LFN is closer to 460 grains in my alloy than the designated 445 grains. In a previous life the Martin designs were cut by Mountain Molds, but the 290 is now available through Accurate...

My sales tax comes to $52 Just almost ordered again... this time it says "Ships from Heart Rate Monitors USA" Huh? Why does a heart rate monitor company have chronographs? lol They sell Garmin sport watches, which are effectively heart rate monitors. The place is actually legit.

Sometimes you need to do some testing on your own. Absent that, you could look at testing done by others. Here's penetration data from test done at the Linebaugh Seminars from 2002-2004 - Linebaugh Penetration TestsThoughts from John Linebaugh on the matter quoted here, albeit with a 45 Colt... I myself would feel fully at ease using a 320-grain 44-caliber LFN running 1050fps (FWIW, that's a sub 25Kpsi 44 Special load). For some odd reason, if that load gave me a case of the doubts, I'd just bring the 475L and get the work done. Shame on the man who can't be bothered to bring enough gun. At some point, Ralphie, you're just gonna have to do some work on your own.

It works ! I figured out how to block a member, happy sigh. Carry on. Thanks Bula. For others, this is available in your profile settings. Go to profile> edit profile> privacy> block users You can then toggle the level of blocking you wish to apply via the check boxes. I was unable to access this feature on my mobile device in the regular “Mobile View “, but was able to make the desired changes in the “Desktop View “. The viewing options are accessible at the bottom of the page.

Please understand that David is honestly trying to help you. Also understand that he is one of the most respected individuals, not only on this forum, but in the revolver industry as a whole. And it is not without merit. Around these parts it is better to be respectful and pay attention to what you are being told (or asked), than remaining flippant and defensive. That's what makes this place different. We're not snobby know-it-alls, we're just not the rest of the Internet.
