If a shooter already has a 454 in the stable, I'd heartily recommend picking one of the 500s. All three carry the mail (454, 475, & 500), but the 454 is where it's at for express delivery and the 500s are superb heavy haulers.

There is no appreciable difference in trajectories between launching a large barn door at 1250fps and launching a slightly smaller barn door at the same speed. Even if the slightly smaller barn door is sped up to 1450, I still feel the difference is negligible. For those who are curious and are working through the mental/theoretical side of these types of decisions, one of the numerous online trajectory calculators can be quite enlightening.

I think folks could find something that would work similarly. Interestingly, Reeds listing for the 240gr WFN states velocity at both 1100fps and 1050fps. I'm curious to see how they chrono. 1100fps would DEFINITELY be +P. Youch!

We survived ! Hear rt90 jammed up , and some north/south major rt's too across northern Ohio, and Erie area. Glad I took off an avoided. Enjoyed time with wife, some decent pics taken. Some hitches in the cable/wifi/bluetooth run to hear Pink Floyd, Dark Side of Moon though. Signal glitched out a couple times. Played by cell, from BT speaker in yard. Cable to house, wifi set up. ANYTHING can fail. The birds, numerous here in the river bottom hood, all went silent at back out. The spring peepers cranked up and took their place. 5-10 minutes later, reversed, back to birds. Cool ! No, really, dropped like 15 degrees FAST. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. It seems to me that experiencing totality is one of those about which people say, "If you know, you know. If you don't, I can't explain it to you". As a former photojournalist, I can tell you that it is a moment that cannot be appreciated via video or still image. And while it's not really my jam, Pink Floyd certainly makes for an entirely appropriate soundtrack.

Ok, the only difference between this one and mine is this one has sling studs and rubber grips and mine is ported with Ironwood grips and I paid more for mine! What gives? www.gunbroker.com/item/1044775678Ronnie Porting is an upgrade (although I'm rather ambivalent about it), as are your grips (one can find Pachmayrs secondhand for a lot cheaper than fitted hardwood). I see sling studs as a detriment and the overall condition of the one linked is far from mint. The general finish would need to be resolved for it to live at my house, along with the need for a set of iron sights. It all goes into the equation. I don't so much look at the price, but at the price plus what it's going to cost to make it what I really want. Deals aren't always deals.

Dear Odin, Thank you very much. When it come to technology (and most other things) I am a knuckle dragger. 1chessiefan Is that hammer "just" a smoothed up and checkered Super hammer? Or is that a full weld up and reshape? Either way it looks really nice.

I don't much care for the visible seams on the slide where the various pieces of Damascus were welded (?) together.
When I first looked at the listing I did a subsequent search for 1911, then sorted by price, high-to-low. Waaaay down at 8 or 9-grand were a pair of Wilson Combat Tactical Supergrade 1911's. If money were no object, the pair would come live with me. If I were smart, I'd shoot one and put the other back for safe keeping. But knowing me, I'd just shoot them both.
I've never had eyes for guns that aren't meant to be used.

I have no idea who he uses for his coloring. Don't know about ResinIvory either, first I've used it. Thanks for the update. I dug around a bit and realized your comment on durability referred to BarS TruIvory. All the reports on Resin Ivory are rather glowing.

Beautiful build, Craig. I’ve got a couple questions. Does Andy do his own case coloring? I think the hammer on that gun is quite handsome. Also, how does the resin ivory hold up to use? I know you’ve used it on a number of projects now and thought I remember you mentioning it’s a bit… fragile?

Congrats! The freedom arms is an awesome platform for the 475 linebaugh. It's amazing how comfortable a 375 grain bullet over 10 grains of 231 is in this beast. I love this combination too. I think of it as the standard working load in the 475. Just like a 240-grainer over Unique in the 44 Special, but with the added benefit of an extra 150 grains or so. Like turning your F-150 into a 1-ton dually. I’m sure Skeeter would approve.

It's still blowing out here. I'm still impressed. Nice shooting.
