Resent! Well good for you! Makes me proud! You should resent it! You are better than that crap. FWIW I do actually write negative stuff from time to time but do my best to restrict it to PMs...

I do not want to go back and forth about it at all. I tried like hell to keep this from being a Reeder bashing thread because little good ever comes from it and believe it or not, I don't enjoy it. Seems to me I'm being judged by past statements. Have at it, I don't care.

Gary makes a fine gun and IMO he's just being responsible... a lot of guys take his guns beyond what he builds them for, then they get lose, crack, or let go completely. Gary is truly concerned for the well being of his customers... to the side of caution. I've got a 510 GNR African Hunter of his that I have likely thrown over 1,000 440g "max" hot loads down, and it wore it out to the point that Gary is making a new cylinder for it.. but he cautions against battering his guns to death with heavy max loads... His guns are NOT as tight as Linebuaghs, but they are 2/3 the price and 25% of the lead time... again, supply and demand. Gary is top rate, and I should know... I'm a BIG customer of his.

Reeder won't build anything bigger than a 5 shot 445 SuperMag on the Ruger maximum Frame because he fills there a little light/weak for the 475 and 500 Maximums, even told me he's seen a few fail. Also talks about heavy weight bullets causing some of the failures he's seen. Lee, Max and others here have shown this to be false. I think Gary has a lot offer but just like with everyone You should figure out who to listen who to ignore and then make up your own mind and if new info comes along make adjustments! That load Lee and I are so enamored with only runs about 35,000 psi. The Max will live a very long time at those levels. Yes sir I was doubtful but Ive seen load data with accompanying pressure data from accurate arms load data. here's the numbers 500 Maximum Barrel: 7.87" ■ Twist: 1-18" ■ Primer: CCI 350 ■ Bullet Dia: 0.511" Lead Bullets 1680 525 CP WFNGC 34.0 1,159 37.8 1,288 33,750 2.000

Lee, you made me stop and thnik, "you know, he's right", there is a lot of similarity between "Reeder" and "Martin." But gun to bow---Reeder guns and Martin bows, both have the similar laser or sandblast etching artwork. Strikingly similar too.
My joke aside, I am sad to hear our old vaquero's may fail since I sincerely love--absolutely adore--mine. I shoot my Linebaugh 500L Vaquero so much I am hoping to take delivery of the same gun in 475 soon. I will be the test dummy--shoot as much as possible, rifling be damned--they make new barrels every day--and see what cracks I can create. I like the adjustable sights for sure, love accurate guns, and admit I can typically shoot a Blackhawk based gun marginally better than a Vaquero--but sorry, those Vaquero based guns are simply sleek and sexy.
And I am not bashing Reeder's guns, think much of what he does is really cool, its just his graphics that seem more designed to appeal to teenage video-game warped knuckleheads. His quality I hear is spot on, his grip frame modifications and grip fit seem very nice. Someday I will likely order one and just ask him to stop before the artwork.
Maybe too much scotch tonight--too little sleep with all the fish in--either way, I promise to do my best to go out and try to shoot the threads out of my 500L vaquero and see if I cannot find a crack or two. If so, all I can say is I'd be on the phone with John Linebaugh asking how long until I could have a replacement. If we need more data, Lee, please make up a stainless vaquero in 475 or 500, your choice, and send that sweet girl north, I'll shoot the heck out of it and happily report back. I love the vaqueros--just say no to crack.

Yikes. I didn't intend to stir the Reeder pot. I only asked if anyone had heard of the issue with large bore Vaquero conversions cracking. Appears that the answer is, quite simply, no.

I talked to John Linebaugh about this a few days ago and John said he has yet to have a problem. I did a bit of looking around and saw that at least one of the guns, perhaps the only gun, that had the problem with cracking was chambered in 454.

Mine should be even less prone to cracking since it has not had the window opened up.

Many many moons ago, John and I collaborated on a .45 Colt conversion of an OM SBH.. I recontoured the hammer spur and fitted a Ruger .45 barrel, and countoured and welded up the top-strap, creating what later showed up as the Vaquero profile. John rechambered the original SBH cylinder, with .480" dia holes, and .452" dia throats. It was proofed at approx, 62,000psi, and regularly digested loads in the 55,000psi + range.. Thousands of them!-- and all with 300gr + bullets.. There has been no indication of problems; no cylinder set-back; no shadowy bolt notches.. No cracks; no stretching;, no nothing.. The gun is still in the family, and is still performing flawlessly.. My early opinion of Reeder's work was that he substituted flash and glitz for quality, seeming to cater to the "Texan Jr" capgun mentality. Fortunately for him, there seems to be a sufficient number of emotionally incomplete shooters to keep bread and beans on Gary's table.. his ego and his disdain for other craftsmen are easily apparent, if one reads his writings.. Always remember that Reeder is in the business of promoting and selling his own frames, and seems to have forgotten the beefy qualities built into the Rugers that launched his career.. That's my nickle's worth.. Take it or leave it..

"...there seems to be a sufficient number of emotionally incomplete shooters..." Yeow! Claws out and getting down with it. I can smell it from here. Was it Charlie Brown who said, "We have seen the enemy and he is us!" You are on your own with this one buckelliott.

Hey Axe, I think this guy must play with his revolver while he's watching Dr. Phil and Oprah. ;D Besides you've got four stars and he only has one. ;D In the words of the late great Rodney King, "can't we all just get along?"

I've been a member of this board for some time now, and go way back to the ones run by Taffin and Taylor, as well as a few others.. used to be a regular contributor, until politics and hero-worship took over, and somme of the boards were closed, and others didn't seem worth the trouble.. You'll Also find me on Paco Kelly's "Leverguns" board, where I contributed prolifically over a number of years, but slowed down a bit when the newer PC crowd (more of the "emotionally incomplete..) took over policing the opinions on that board as well... I am a lifelong shooter, experimenter, gunsmith, fireaarms designer and made my living for 20 years or so as a licensed guide in Wyoming.. I worked at Freedom Arms for a while, and count Dick Casull and John Linebaugh as good friends.. So... Go ahead and peer down your long, humped patrician noses at this old "Troll" if you will, and pray that some day, your 4 stars can indicate as much knowledge and experience as is contained in my single luminary...
