Lee, a friend from Sweden, and I hit Lee's range yesterday to do some shooting and to sight my .500 Maximum in. It's an accurate piece for sure! I put 50 full-house rounds through it myself and am pleased with it -- to say the least! Here are a few pictures of the session (Lee may contribute some photos as well). Lee shooting the Max in full recoil: The revolvers we shot yesterday - clockwise from top: Custom Model 29-2, Bisley Hunter .44 Mag, Bisley in .45 Colt, .454 Redhawk, .500 Max Ruger, and FA 83 in .454 Casull. Again, the Max in full recoil:

Thanks Whit for another great session with your JRH. Everything about that gun is first rate. I'll be posting more photos of our range time tomorrow. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I just noticed how bad my knuckle looks in that last photo. That said, Jack's reworked Bisley gripframe never touched my knuckle. If you're going to build a five shot cannon I highly recommend Mr. Huntington. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

It's really fun seeing you guy's shooting the big stuff. I had my .475 LBs out last week for the first time in a while. Loaded 100 rounds of Ken O's load (400gr XTP Mag w/25.0 H110) and was verifying POI and chronographing so when my son calls at the last minute to go bear hunting I'll be ready. The load was running right at 1,270 fps (60 deg F and 5 paces fr muzzle) from two 6" FAs and was about as much fun as I wanted. I hurt my wrist several years ago using those sears ratchet pruning shears of all things and can't put up with much sustained recoil anymore.
Interesting thing is that both gun's average velocity was within 10 fps. One is an older M757 that is magna ported and has 14,000 down the pipe and the other is a newer M83 that I've only shot several hundred times)
I see Lee's sportin' the "shooters" tan.
Keep the pictures and narrative coming.
Paul

Lee,
Man, that knuckle looks battered. I don't wish you any ill will, but, don't be surprised if that knuckle gets introduced to one of the 'ritis brother somewhere down the road. Looks like fun though. Doc, still wont let me shoot. Not even a lowly .22, I guess that's the price of healing. Maybe that is why my dogs don't shoot?

A couple of more shots from Saturday: Whitworth and his 500 Max JRH. The load is our standard 38.0 of AA1680 and the 525 WFN. Group fired at 50 yards: He was sighting it in for an upcoming hog hunt. Based on how this thing shoots some little piggy will be going to market. A set of Jack Huntington customs (left to right - 500 Linebaugh SRH, 500 Max, 50 Alaskan): -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I put 50 of those loads through my Maximum, bringing my total to 100. Only 900 more to go to meet the goal of 1,000 round this year! ;D Trying to catch up to Lee right now!

Ok guys you said you were sighting in the 500Max how do you go about it?
I find that where I hit from sand bags complared to a sitting/offhand POI is WAY different and only gets more different the heavier the recoil gets. Heck I sight in my revolvers by sitting against a tire, tree or something with my knees drawn up and my hands resting on top of my knees. I used to lock my hands between my knees but found that effected the POI too much from offhand to be useful other that proving loads out...

Hey whit - Got any more pictures of the 29-2. I have a couple of them. One is a safe queen and the other is a real beater, gets allot of woods walking and general banging around. Kind of nice to have a piece that I don't have to baby. Tell me again what the barrel length is on your 500 max. Thinking it's 6"?
