I've had three friends, who were bitten by snakes, and they were not playing with them either. One of the guys died a few days after the bite. I kill rattlers on sight, and am proud of it.
I was never in the military, but am a retired LEO having seen quite a bit of death and mayhem in my day, I still maintain a proper perspective regarding killing when appropriate. It's a poisonous snake for Heaven's sake!
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Genesis 3:26

Sorry guys...this one ( suba ) isn't a troll. Why shouldn't I be allowed on this web site ?? Because I'm not a sheep ? I've been lurking on this site for years. Recently I joined, but I don't have to follow in line if I choose not to. I'm not some teeny bopper. Joined the Marines in 69. Saw too much killing in Vietnam. Before that I started shooting and trapping and hunting by age eight or so. Spent too much of my life killing until one day I woke up and got smart. End of story. In your years of lurking, you didn't figure out that this site was frequented by a bunch of sportsmen? Make whatever choices you wish about killing but admonishing others for doing such is juvenile and naive. Doesn't matter when you were born or where you've been. Period. On topic, ever been bitten by a venomous snake? My good friend and neighbor has. Two years ago a copperhead hit him on the hand in his garden. His kidneys shut down, he suffered liver damage and he almost died. Sorry but venomous snakes don't get a pass when I'm on the job. So you can take your self-righteous diatribe elsewhere as far as I'm concerned. We are sportsmen, we are sixgunners, we are hunters and we are generally good men. Love it or go away.

Sixgunn
Welcome to the forum. Hope you feel free to join in & take part regardless of some posts. Nice shot!
I long ago lost my like for poisonous snakes. When I was still in High School. I was with my Uncle checking his cattle. We saw a nice Herford cow with her face swollen to about twice normal size. I asked my Uncle what would have caused that. He said probably a rattle snake (there were a lot of them in those foothills), he said she'd probably survive if the swelling didn't shut off her nose or throat.

Boge, let me know if you want some rattles. ( snake, not baby rattles ) I am always looking for (snake) rattles! I like to put a set in my guitars & mandolins - it's an old fiddler's tradition. Must. Resist. Urge. To. Get. On. Soapbox. And. Educate. Boge, I can send you some but they won't come from dead snakes. Each rattle segment attaches to the next like legos. Easy to pop on/off if one is so inclined. No harm, no foul. Let me know.

Very cool Sixgunn , I am so happy I dont live where you live. I would probably have a heart attack if I ever saw a snake like that . I definitely would not have the composure to stand there ,take aim and actually hit it .

These things are really hard on you arent they Cucuy. =) I do admire your restraint. Where i live I only assasinate Copperheads. I go out of my way to not hurt other reptiles.

I don't go looking for them, but if they're in my domain I'll kill them, mainly because it's too dangerous to try to catch and remove them. I may not be that agile and I don't think I'd like the looks of my fingers or hand rotting off. Other snakes, I catch and bring home because they eat vermin. I never ate copperhead but rattler is good. Takes a heck of a lot of worm snakes for a mess, however.
