Could someone tell me if a Bowen rear sight will fit on a BFR? Yes, it will as I have done it.

Glad to see they're now available. Looks like I'll be flexing the Visa this week. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Sports South carries them. The last time I looked they had them in stock and they will probably have more in soon. Unfortunately if you read the item description under the photo it says it is a S&W 500.

I have a Marlin .450 with 22" barrel, the MR model. Shooting full power loads can be tiring after while and I cant imagine shooting them in a BFR. Can you load the BFR guns in .45-70 and .450 Marlin to full rifle specs or do those that shoot them load them down somewhat? Just saw some utube vids showing some guys shooting them but dont know what kind of loads they use. Recoil didnt look all that bad.

grabagun.com/magnum-research-inc-bfr500jrh-500-jrh-5-5in-ss.htmlOut of stock. Maybe it was $809? Either way, the stock number is the same above on sports south as the one I bought with the 7.5" barrel. It was also listed as a .500S&W for caliber. My suggestion is that if you really want a 5.5", only buy one you can see first or be prepared to cut.

Again, I handled an off-the-shelf 5.5-inch BFR in .500 JRH last weekend. They are apparently available now. The one at the NRA convention was 5" and was a custom shop gun (had the precision center style frame writing and fitted white grips). It can be seen on page 15 of the 2011 MR catalog. I really like the way the grips feel on these vs the rubber. Guess my future is looking expensive again.

That's not what Jim Tertin told me (he's the production manager). He said it was 5.5-inches (just relaying the conversation that I had with him). My .500 JRH is a Precision Center gun and I specified black Micarta grips. They suck when you load at the top end.

He told me the same thing, but I doubt they're shipping them with fitted white grips ;-)

He told me the same thing, but I doubt they're shipping them with fitted white grips ;-) They probably gussied it up for the show -- as they are apt to do. The grips look good, a world better than that godaweful rubber.

Somebody order one and let us know what you end up with now.
I ordered mine a while back and got 7.5". There are some on the beartooth shooters forum with 7.5" barrels too. But maybe they have it straightened out now. They can build nice guns, but I think the catalog people are a little off.

I was told that a 45/70 BFR could be loaded with loads listed as suitable for lever actions.

whitworth, Read where you posted on the Alaska Forum that you know several folks who have purchased the 5.5 barreled 500 JRH. Any idea where they bought them at?

That same 45-70 BFR can have a 450M cylinder so I'd think that any reasonable modern 45-70 load would be fine..
