I've owned my share of Ruger single actions as well as a couple of Freedom Arms (which are my favorite).
Never owned a BFR, in fact, don't think I ever seen one. But after joining this forum the BFR has my interest and am considering purchasing one.
Is the BFR that much of a better revolver compared to a Ruger Bisley or Super Blackhawk and worth the extra money?
If it is, where is the best place to buy one as my dealer will order anything for me at $10 over his cost.

They're not as nice as a Freedom and the grip frame leaves something to be desired (I just don't really care for plow handles), but nearly every one I have had the pleasure of shooting has been accurate, and it is a tough gun to beat at the price point. My BFR in .500 JRH is one of the most accurate revolvers I have ever shot, bar none.

I own a BUNCH of Rugers, and if I was looking for a large frame SS single action 44 mag or 45 Colt I wouldnt consider anything but the BFR. That said they definately arent a FA but in big bores like 475,50AE and 500 JRH their price, quality and accuracy cannot be touched.

I'm sure this'll cause some waves, but the BFR's I've worked with are every bit as accurate as FAs (if not more). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Fit, finish, free spin pawl, and a cylinder that spins like it is on ball bearings... Hard not to like them. Every modern single action fan needs at least one in His "set"

Okie dokie. How do you go about buying one for the best price? Have my dealer order direct? If not, who is the best distributor to order from?

Gunbroker would be the first place I would check.

Gunbroker would be the first place I would check. +1 regarding Gunbroker. This year I have bought two NEW BFRs from Gunbroker auctions. The .50AE I got was $550, and the .500 S&W was $655. Deals can be had, just have to be patient. Good luck.

The one I have in mind is the .500 JRH Revolver, 5.5-inch barrel. Seems the older I get the shorter I like the barrels.
Have a fair supply of bullets on hand for my .500 Smiths so wouldnt have to add another diameter to the mix. Just some brass and dies and good to go.

If you want a 500 JRH you'll need to call their custom shop. I think they run around $1,100. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

How does the bulk compare to a, say, SBH? Are they huge-r, about the same size or...? They look like they're built heavier on the front of the topstrap?

I handled a 5.5-inch model in .500 JRH at the NRA Annual Meetings last weekend and it balanced great.
