Can anyone here tell me about Jim Stroh guns. I'am looking at a Alpha Precision Ruger Bisley 44 that he built.

From what I understand, and from what I have seen, he does great work. He's a nice guy as well - if that counts for anything!

I don't own any, but I've handled and shot some of Taffin's Strohs. Very nice indeed.

I had Jim shorten several revolver barrels and weld up holes tapped into the top of one of the top straps. He installed his front sight on all of the shortened barrels. Could not have been more pleased with his work.
I hand delivered the revolvers to him, mostly just to have to opportunity to meet him. He is a gentleman and a pleasure to spend time with. He is the sort of guy who has amazing knowledge (which he shares freely) and is very personable.
Now that I think about it a little, I also sent him a Model 19 with issues which he resolved in short order and slicked up the action / timing in the meantime.
I don't think you would be disappointed.

There are only two reasons I passed on that gun, neither of which pertain to Jims work. One I have a "Quest" gun done by Jim already and it is one beautiful gun. In fact, I talked to him a couple of times yesterday when he called to let me know the ivory grips I send down along with the Powers 2 piece gripframe I wanted fit to the gun would not fit a nice as he liked and he was giving me a heads up. The second reason is the original owner did not go to the expense of having Jim install his front sight that he offers. In my opinion it is THE nicest front sight in the business as far as style and grace is concerned. Here is a picture of two guns I own that Jim did the majority of the work on. Jim did the conversion work on theis NF. Alan did the bisley hammer. This gun is the one I have back at Jim's now getting the steel gripframe fit to. The brass was a little to blingy for me. Jim shortened the barrel to 5 1/2" fit the Clements hammer, did his top notch tune and deluxe reblue. Since the ivories I sent would not fit to his high standards, he is shipping the gun to Nutmeg Sports for one piece ivories.

Thanks for the info. I plan on sending the gun back to have his front sight installed.

Not only does Jim Stroh do fine work but he is a gentleman and easy to deal with. I've been to his shop twice and it is always immaculate. I also agree that his front sight is the best looking on the market. He did this .44Spl conversion on an old beater .357 flat-top 12yrs ago. It is not only the most accurate but the most boringly consistently accurate sixgun I own. If I miss, I know whose fault it is.

"blingy" Really? I wouldn't think that a brassie would stick out any more than a little poop on the toe of a man's boot!

My Stroh gun. Jim converted this Ruger three-screw .357 to .44 Special. New barrel with his frontsight, steel ejector housing, locking base pin and action job. He fitted a XR3 gripframe and refitted the grips. High polish blue and matted the gripframe. His craftsmenship is one of the very best.

You will not be disappointed. He is up there with the top smiths and a great guy as well. His shop is 30 min from my house (I wish that meant something like quicker turn around, but it doesn't) and I have visited with Jim many times. I have a couple that he has done full custom work on and several more that have just action work and/or minor tweaks - he is a one man shop and meticulous which sometimes equals a long wait for major work. Short of a 5 shot conversion, this one has the works and is a real shooter. This SRH has had moderate work done by Jim
