Is there a "rare" Ruger single action? Something most Ruger aficionados would like to find? I know the 3 screws and flattops and some 41 mags have a following, is there anything else in the Ruger line that a fella might luck into?

Lots, although I am too ignorant to list any of them. Some of the special distributor runs are highly collectable and so on. Unfortunately, I am not the authority on them but one will be along shortly.

I recently found a 1989 Super Blackhawk with a 10½" barrel-- not sure how many of those have been built.

Not really "RARE" but several that are "not common". Perhaps called clean up guns some have numbers in and around the 200 mark. Thinking about the Stainless 32 mag single six or possibly the Vaquero 44 spl. Sheriff variations.

I like unusual stuff that everyone doesn't have but I'm not tuned into the whole rare thing. One I've always wondered about is a Ruger "Star" .22 of which I've only seen one and then in the late 70's to early 80's?

A one-of-a-kind would be the New Model Flat Top .44 Magnum built at Skeeter Skelton's death. Specially engraved with ivory stocks ans Skeeter's Bar T brand kinsert into the grips. And the case hardened Single Six used in the introductory article in the Gun Digest. Also a highly engraved Single Six for some purpose which I forget now. And, I believe any Ruger with the certificate from Sally Skelton authenticating it having been in Skeeter's collection. A friend of mine acquired this from the Skelton auction. Bob Wright

Take your pick. 7 1/2” and 10” old model 44 mag flat tops, old model Blackhawks with factory installed MR:-BD brass grip frames, 256 Hawkeye single shot, early 357 flat top 357 Ross variety or just the original Type 1 357 with the wavey front site and small serrated ejector rod button. You could also look for a set of the early 7 1/2” bisleys with the fluted non engraved cylinders. Pick your passion and start the journey.

In the minutia of the collector's world there is, minor variations, slightly different markings, different rifling styles, stuff like that.
Then there's low production variations... like .32 Mag Bisley Single sixes... They're all sort of uncommon, but Adjustable sight ones aren't "rare", drift rear sights with fluted cylinders, less common but not "rare", drift sight with unfluted cylinders, are rare. (or some combination of those features anyway, it's been way too long and it was never really my thing.)
Despite not being a collector nor wanting to be, a decade or two ago that was my favorite part of the Ruger Forum, reading / learning about all the minor differences and what made things rare. All those people faded away (or passed away) and my interest in the place started to fade.

Well tentcamper,, you've asked a very broad question.
Yes,, there are a LOT of Rugers considered to be rare & collectable.
How about an original Red Eagle Standard Auto,, only built between 1949 & early 1952?
Try finding a early factory engraved Single-Six. About 258 of those were done,, and command $10,000.00 or more most often. (Usually more than that.)
Some have mentioned the Hawkeye handgun. At 3300 produced,, yet a very different type of handgun,, considered very collectable, and aren't cheap either. The .357 Maxi NM was built for 2 years,, and only a bit over 11,000 guns were shipped. Many have been customized,, so the numbers are fewer than that,, but very desirable.
Quite a few various guns were built in low quantities,, to where many collectors chase them.
If you really want your eyes opened,, check out the "Ruger Owners & Collectors Society" also known as "ROCS" to see a lot of rare or collectable Rugers.
Way too many rare & collectable guns to mention.

I like flat gate single sixes, though I don't own one. They're not tough to find on gunbroker, but they're older 3 screw variants and nice one seem to command a premium price.
