Curious what do we define as rare?
By listening to you guys you would think anything less the say 2000 made is “rare” although Ruger has made many small runs of guns that were way less than that such as 4 5/8” 480 Ruger Bisleys. As was stated they made 6 total 357max guns and 3 were destroyed after testing (I remember one going through Rock Island auction a few years back).
By British double gun standards everything Ruger has ever made is basically mass production. Different business models and not exactly apples to apples but Boss has been one of the finest gun makers in the world since the 1830s and I don’t think they have made 10k total yet. 20 +/- or so guns a year I think is all they produce.
So just wondering where the linen in the sand is? 53 for the original Shootist Single Six Bisleys? But there have been lot is 100-250 unit runs of guns for Davidson’s and others that might have been intended to be bigger runs but they never took off.

I think rare would be confined to a smaller number. Uncommon might be a better word for some of these Rugers. I have a Bisley .44 magnum with a fluted cylinder. It’s the only one like it I’ve ever seen, but I think that just makes it uncommon and not rare because I sure haven’t seen them all.

There's a Old Model SBH with 6 1/2 barrel on GB for $899 "buy it now" price. Anybody know how many of those were made?

If it's a factory lettered OM SBH (Model S46) within the serial number range of 24300 to 27164,, it's one of 600 produced. Employee mistake. In excellent condition, collector price will be around $1600.00. If it's a FLATTOP OM .44,, with a 6-1/2" bbl, then it's much more common.

I have a 1 of 500 ihmsa Blackhawk 10.5. It came in a nice hard case but it’s not really collectible considering the current state of silhouette shooting. Had a couple of those back in the day but not with the shipper. Nice one to have!

You make a good point...it's like watching Barrett Jackson..."Here we have lot 642...one of only 15 ultra unobtanium blue convertibles with a 4 speed and adamantium 5 spoke rims...with the ultra special K code pixie dust air freshener package"...some people will look at that and be impressed...others will say "so what". Rarity is a function of uniqueness AND what the market values...just because it's rare doesn't mean it's special to everyone.

Anything in 38-40 & 10mm sure asks a premium. The Buckeyes, the Vaqueros and the Blackhawks. Not rare just Limited.

10 or more years ago one could stroll into Riley’s Sport Shop in Hooksett, New Hampshire and expect to see a selection including both 357 and SBH OMs, a 357 maxi and a Seville or Virginian Dragoon on any particular day. I still cruise the local gun shops, but internal lock S&Ws and very modern Rugers is all I typically see (and even those are vastly outnumbered by polymer). So, as far as enthusiasts on this form go, everything is becoming a little more rare.
