Brother Encore,
Just as a head’s up, never get TetraLube around Hoppes #9. I found out the hard way. TetraLube is fantastic slippery stuff. Hoppes #9 is a good bore cleaner that is proven. Combined they make the most tenacious stick glue like contact cement. It takes a little while, but will glue a gun shut. Really hard to disassemble and clean out. Day to day I use BreakFree CLP now and BreakFree oil to prevent this sort of issue. God Bless, Marc

Great score! I bought one years ago for a base gun. A friend and I were really impressed with it and it would have been a great keeper but I was on a quest. John Gallagher RIP turned it into an Octagon, Bisley 500L. Beautiful!!! When I bought my first 50th Anniversary 44 Magnum it was to be sent to JRH to build new a 500 JRH. I found it "Too Good" to be used as a base gun and went another route.

Axially or radially? I’d love to know exactly how not expanding or adding material tightened that gap. Bigbore and I both explained what was happening and he said quote “EXACTLY” to my statement that I formed as a question so not to patronize you. I realize I’m a “newbie”, but if you want to correct me, pull your head out of your hiney first. I wonder why we need shims when a base pin takes up cylinder gap? Can’t wait to hear the explanation! It’s all moot to me. Id set the barrel back a thread…..because I can. My use of "Exactly" was pointing out that you described the canting of the cylinder accurately. The rest of my description of the mechanics of what was happening was to explain why he was functionally correct in the reduction of measurable gap and why it was important. The mechanics of a revolver are very different from the rifles you said you built. Things are supposed to move around in a revolver or it will not function properly. I want to publicly apologize to everyone and especially the OP for hijacking his thread and being an Ahole about it. My tongue is a work in progress. Very sorry!

Gentlemen, I deleted what I could of the negativity on this thread.
We are all passionate about our guns.
Being a firm believer that more imput is best, I hope Hunter01 has a future on this forum.

Having starting reloading with Unique at the age of 15, it still tends to be where I begin 44 years 😫 later.
10.0 grns seems to be about right in the 44 Magnum, so again I started with what I know.
Using Kings 240 grn Coated SWC and Matt's 250 grn Wadcutters, I started.
Gun was shooting high and left. I used the depth end of a dial caliper and centered the rear sight. This put windage spot on. So, at least the barrel is straight.
Lowering the rear sight solved the elevation problem too.
Long story short, all groups remained under 1.5" at 25 yards. It's beautiful weather here and I can see the sights great today. In overcast weather, the glare seems to mess my shooting up.
I'm well satisfied with this revolver. I do want to chronograph a few rounds just to see where I'm at.

A classic load in a classic caliber. Anyone that shoots the 44 is a happy shooter with this load & it's easy on the back end but has plenty of punch on the front end for either plinking or hunting. Plus, getting 700 loads from one pound of powder is something to consider. Unique was also the first powder I started out with way back in 1966 & is a favorite from the 9mm up to the 45 Colt, pretty versatile. Enjoy your new Christmas present!

She’s a shooter! I use universal instead of unique because I already have a ton of it. I never see unique for sale around here either.

I love threads like this. Winner all the way around. As far as Unique, it’s scarce in my area also but I did find an 8# jug cheapish recently. The blind squirrel found a nut....

The 10 gr of unique load in the 44 magnum, is a great one, unfortunately I also haven't seen any for 3-4 years now, and my supply is almost extinct, had 6 pounds in 2020, thought it would last longer, but no, it just works in everything, including some cast rifle loads, that 10 gr is excellent with 150 gr lead in 30-30. I'm glad you found such an exceptional revolver, at an amazing price, I think we're all a little envious of that score

Very accurate (moreso than I) for my purpose, which is to ventilate a hog every now and then, and possibly a deer. No need for screamers.

My problem is like many of the forum members.
It's so tempting to send this thing to JRH for some mods.
Freedom Arms Style Front Sight, JRH Grip Mod, SBH Hammer and Premium Blue.
But, then it wouldn't be the no worry carry gun. Too many years chasing the perfect revolver has made me look at everything as a project...
