Encore, you made a helluva deal on a great revolver. I’ll second the Keith at 1200fps, a pussycat load that will cover anything we are likely to need in the southern states. Enjoy your find Sir !

Thank you and everyone for the kind words. It'll definitely be used with modest loads and cast bullets. Again, Thank You...

I thought bigbore5's explanation made perfect sense, what I gathered is that a properly fit basepin takes out the slop, movement in the cylinder, which happens under recoil, therefore correcting cylinder gap, basically tightening the gap, pretty simple, in my opinion

Never quite get lucky enough to score deals like that. Here's an option - Still a work in progress and have bisley hammer and trigger but not fitted yet. . Paul

How you approached him asking his best price I found to be much more successful over making a lowball offer.
Enjoy it.

Great score! I bought one years ago for a base gun. A friend and I were really impressed with it and it would have been a great keeper but I was on a quest. John Gallagher RIP turned it into an Octagon, Bisley 500L.

Huey, really glad you got it, you did your homework/footwork & found it, cleaned it up & it will give you years of service, great find! First thing I do with a new Ruger is add a Belt Mountain base pin.

It really is simple Trent. But... Axially or radially? I’d love to know exactly how not expanding or adding material tightened that gap. Bigbore and I both explained what was happening and he said quote “EXACTLY” to my statement that I formed as a question so not to patronize you. I realize I’m a “newbie”, but if you want to correct me, pull your head out of your hiney first. I wonder why we need shims when a base pin takes up cylinder gap? Can’t wait to hear the explanation! It’s all moot to me. Id set the barrel back a thread…..because I can. My use of "Exactly" was pointing out that you described the canting of the cylinder accurately. The rest of my description of the mechanics of what was happening was to explain why he was functionally correct in the reduction of measurable gap and why it was important. The mechanics of a revolver are very different from the rifles you said you built. Things are supposed to move around in a revolver or it will not function properly.
