I tried looking up some of my prior posts to see the pistol pics people posted of their 500 JRH's but this turned out to be a wild goose chase. I just received my custom BFR 500 JRH with 5.5 inch octagon barrel with a black nitrided trigger and hammer. I still have to send the gun to Jack Huntington for custom grips/grip frame stretch. I'd like for you guys who have a 500 JRH to post photos, even multiple pictures of all your 500 JRH's, and of course, those with optics mounted on them. Thanks in advance!! Jeff

Don't have a BFR, jb500, but considered having them build a 5.5 inch 500 JRH. Questions: Did you specify a 5.5 inch barrel for your build? If so, did they measure from the front of the cylinder or front of the frame?
If possible, please post a picture of yours. Thanks!

Ramar,
I had them build a 5.5 inch octagon barrel, so that has to go through their custom shop, which means it was measured from the front of the cylinder and the cylinder gap is set to 2/1000ths of an inch. Standard factory guns the barrel is measured from the front of the frame and the cylinder gap is 4/1000ths down to as low as 2/1000ths inch depending on luck. I will post a picture soon of my gun. Thanks!!

Thanks for your response, jb! That's valuable information. Never heard the difference between custom and standard builds.

Lee, Now that is a good looking BFR!! 2 Dogs lives about 3 hours from me. I am in San Antonio and he is south of me. Are those Jack's standard frame/grip mod, or did you send him a gun with a Bisley grip and he made the grips wider?

I'm fairly certain that unless you want/need more done to the gun, you can simply send Jack the grip frame for the conversion. No need to send the whole gun.
Also, I think there's a few BFRs in the Blueprint thread, which is as good an excuse as any to scroll through all those custom builds... again.

Ramar,
If you go to the magnum research website magnumresearchcustomguns.com , then click on the tab "Build Your BFR", you can check out all the options that you can put on a BFR. You might want to call them , though, I you want any part of the gun case colored. The case coloring option used to be on their gunbuilder website but they removed it. There are a couple of issues with the gun builder: one is the aforementioned case coloring, and two is don't click on gun full matt finished because then it won't let you ad the SAF cylinder, which most people don't buy anyway. Just play around on their gun building site and you will figure all this out. Have fun! Build a dream!

Thanks again, jb. Good advice! I'll call them to make sure everything is as wanted before pulling the trigger.

Thanks again, jb. Good advice! I'll call them to make sure everything is as wanted before pulling the trigger. You also have to call to get the sbh style hammer. I use it on all of mine.

Thanks, bigbore5. Good to know. I wondered why the sbh style hammer isn't on the custom build page.

BTW... the barrel of the 45-70 was shortened locally ( I might have done the 500 as well... I can't remember ) & both are wearing custom extra tall, 2 Dogs front sights...
& I'd still like to change out the hammer on the 500... the 45-70 was an unfired 10" barrel, old model, regular grip I bought, & that's a factory installed Ruger Super Blackhawk hammer... MR installed the Bisley grip frame & Black grips... I think the 45-70's hammer looks awesome... I'd prefer one of those on the 500

I also run a 2dogs brass tall front sight on my 500L. Love it.

Lee, Now that is a good looking BFR!! 2 Dogs lives about 3 hours from me. I am in San Antonio and he is south of me. Are those Jack's standard frame/grip mod, or did you send him a gun with a Bisley grip and he made the grips wider? I sent Jack the stock BFR gripframe and he re-worked it. He also did the walnut grips. I cut the barrel back to 6.0" and added the 2Dogs front sight. Here's a better side-view of the Huntington re-shape. This one is my .475 Linebaugh BFR. It matches my .500 JRH except for the micarta. I don't mean to speak for Ronnie Wells, but I believe he'll be offering BFR gripframes soon (or maybe he's already doing them). If you want to upgrade a BFR, give him a call. You won't be disappointed. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"
