Have been following prices for these for quite a few years...ever since CZ purchased Colt the prices have been going up... Used to be a nice clean SAA could be had from $1500-1900...now it seems prices start at $2300 and work up...
Right now there are over 150 of them for sale on GunBroker many with a penny start...they are bringing more than a used Freedom Arms.
Glad I bought that pair of .32-20s when I did. There is only one modern .32-20 for sale, a 2005 just like mine, and the dealer wants $4400...
Soon they'll be pushing $4k...Bob

That works out well for me. In a few more years, ten, fifteen at the most, I'll be cashing in on my Colts, or somebody will, for my estate. I've nobody to leave them to so proceeds will go to my estate.
And, don't feel sorry for me. I've made reservations for a much better place.

I told a friend just a few days back that I wished my 401k had increased in value like guns had.

I must have hit the wrong search button...I got a lot of Standards stuff but not their SAs...thank you... Bobcat: GunBroker does not make it easy to find just the Standard Manufacturing single actions. I do not believe that you hit the wrong search, only that you did not obtain any results at that time. Bob Wright is right on target too, as usual! J.D. Press

Watched a lot of SAAs sell this weekend... one new in box pair of consecutive serial number guns brought $6k...just recent manufacturer bone stock 4.75" .45s... Average price for a new in box gun was in the $2500-3000 range. Only saw a couple of used guns bring less than $2k.

I hate to sound like a crank old man, but the Colts have risen to silly money for something to shoot. One nationwide dealer I spoke with said it's the collectors driving the prices out of the realm of shooters. In my looking, the limited production current Colts (or any since 2005) run list price plus $800 to $1,000 on up. In other words $2,600 and up prices. Just seems untenable. I am wondering in the long run if these guns will drop in price, as the younger generations seem to mainly want black plastic.
The 3rd Generation guns pre-2005 in my opinion can be a like throwing dice. I had in my hand a 1981, unturned, unfired SAA recently. It was appalling. When the gun was picked up, the cylinder literally went "clack, clack, clack" rattling on the basepin. Side to side, at an angle, and back and forth. The hammer would not hold full cock on one chamber (badly formed ratchet). The action felt like it had shim washers made of 36 grit sandpaper.....seriously. The front edge of the trigger opening in the guard cut my finger open. A collector had it in his safe for the last 40 years and had no idea how bad a product it was. It did look pretty, I'll give it that.
The 2nd Gen guns have risen even higher in price.
Regarding the Standard Manufacturing Single Actions, all of the reports I read say it is at least as good as the best Colts. One YouTuber disassembled a Colt, a USFA, and a Standard Manufacturing to compare, and the Standard came out very favorably. There are also comparison videos showing shooting of the three. BTW, some of the gun listings you see for Standard are the factory's ads. They say they are running 8 to 10 weeks out if someone orders.
Regarding the comment about how Colts increase in price versus other American "clones", I'd suggest looking at the prices of USFA guns since they went out of business. As a good friend said, there will always be a market for a quality American made SAA.
Again, Colts have been a great investment in the past, with folks who grew up watching Westerns. In the future, will the plastic gun and online gaming generations care? I am unsure about the future value increases of what we enjoy today. My thought is, buy what you enjoy, shoot it, and if it goes up in price....wonderful. If not, you still enjoyed it.
God Bless, and best wishes, Marc

The Colts are crazy but the Rugers are getting silly too. Most donor guns are going for $1000 now

I was never interested in Colt when prices were "reasonable". In Colt's case tradition trumps practicality. They "could" have modernized the SA and 1911's (AND kept traditional models in the catalog) but it's like they have a bunch of old men at a table harumphing "it's never been done here before" mentality about modernizing of their iconic models. Just about EVERY semi automatic pistol maker has ramped / supported barrels and Colt is STILL stuck in the 1920's and makers of SA revolvers have bypassed them in material selection and strength.
So, stainless Rugers have been my go to SA revolver, and Colt isn't even a blip on my RADAR screen for 1911's. If I found the right one a FA would be a far more reasonable purchase for me.
