This is really NUTZ.... Yesterday two NIB Colt SAAs all stock with 5.5" barrels from different Sellers sold for $2700 and $2650...so lets say a pair is going to cost you $5400... That consecutive pair, same guns as above, that you would pay $200 to get consecutive numbers and probably another $5-600 for two sets of genuine stag grips brought $8475....so someone paid an additional $3k to get two serial numbers in a row and some stag grips... But even worse...that same model...$2700...5.5"...add a set of ivory stocks and someone paid $6025...so they paid $3325 for a set of ivory.... Or how about a $3k .44 Special with a $2k set of ivory...or is it a $2k .44 Special with $3k worth of ivory.... www.gunbroker.com/item/970060258Still watching some more...

I've got a handful of Colt NF Gen 3 Barrels that'll screw right on a Ruger Blackhawk.
I should probably post them for sale. Bought them for projects, but only ever got one built.

If you have a nice condition blued 5 1/2 or 4 3/4 3rd Gen in 45 Colt I would be interested in buying one.

Some of those prices will take your breath away
From my perspective as a shooter, not a collector, Freedom Arms prices are reasonable compared to some of the Colts, and Ruger SA are a bargain.

rjm52 - I agree with you on that 44 Special's appeal. I've never much cared for "Chrome" guns and that particular one appears over buffed. But I sure like the ivory grips.
Many years ago my "grail" gun was a Colt NF 4 3/4" .44 Special, engraved, with one piece ivory grips. That gun never happened, but Jim Stroh produced a spiritual kin to that gun when he converted an OM .357 for me. That gun was mentioned in a previous thread.
I do like the Colts, but find some of the other options to be more practical, especially where finances are concerned.

I guess when you scratch something up it loses its value.... www.gunbroker.com/item/967098101So for $9k you can buy matched engraved pair of SAAs with ivory stocks or for $8400 the same guns in blue with stag stocks... ...what am I missing...

It's a good time and a bad time to want a Colt SAA..."good" in that there are more on the market than I can ever remember seeing..."bad" in that the prices are higher than ever before.
Just before CZ took over Colt one could buy a nice SAA for $1500-2000, now that same gun is another grand more...add ivory stocks and it's $3500+...
Glad I bought what I did when I did...and sorry I didn't buy that one more in .45...

At this point, only Colt SAA I want is a Bisley...and that'll be a Tulsa buy...luckily, most people think they're ugly ducklings so the market hasn't gone crazy yet...sorta the Porsche 914 of the SAA world from a collector perpective.

...914...a VW with a Porsche emblem... And yet, finally starting to get some love from the Porsche collectors. Near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and the 6 cylinder wasn't a slouch.

..just kiddin...it was a pretty neat car a couple of my friends had them and they ran good...
Probably a lot less dangerous to drive than a 911...

A good friend recently received his Standard Manufacturing Single Action, a 4-3/4" nickel gun. He invited me to a local indoor range (I dislike indoor ranges, but how could I pass this up?) to shoot it. He was using Herter's 250 grain LRNFP bullets, and he said they are around 750fps. I gave it a good going over. Very impressive revolver, in a serious way. After shooting it, the thought that sprang to mind was, "This gun was tooled, machined, fit and finished by people who are building these guns for people who know and care about shooting single actions." Talk about wanting to make the customer happy. The action is very precisely fit (like a David Clements action I once tried), but is ultra slippery smooth. Like an early OM Super Blackhawk slick, but more precise tolerances. Almost no perceptible play in the cylinder. Perfectly fit base pin and bushing. Nice sharp clicks as the hammer notches are engaged. The trigger is around 3 pounds I'd guess. He handed me a box with 40 cartridges left, and I shot it offhand at 15 yards. Pretty much a ragged hole of 32 rounds at 9 o'clock touching the orange 3" paster target. I had 8 rounds left of his ammo so I held on the right side of another orange paster and put the last 8 in the orange. I have not had the opportunity to shoot a post-2005 Colt SAA, but I hear they are sweet. It would be a stretch to beat my buddy's gun though. Just thought y'all would appreciate a range report. My apologies for the poor photo. It was of course inside. God Bless, Marc

They are very nice guns , but the price has really crept up on them . I wish they would do a New Frontier copy or something with adjustable sights .

Back to the Colts... That plain pair of 4.75" with the ivory stocks is now up to $8k...
