Hello all, I didn't see a dedicated area for new member introductions so I thought I'd post one here. I recently bought a .357 Blackhawk (1980 manufacture date but in fine working order) that I intend to turn into a field gun. The previous owner polished off most of the finish, along with the warning on the barrel, but never went further along in his project than that, so the gun is a perfect base for what I have in mind. I intend to shorten the barrel as much as possible and still retain use of the ejector rod (my research says with some work-arounds that should be around three inches), and convert to a birds head grip frame, then probably Cerakote the whole thing.
This is my first single-action revolver and a project that I've had in mind for some time, but I'm not new to guns or amateur gun smithing. I've been shooting since I was six, am a benefactor member of the NRA and have shot competitively both rifle and pistol. That is to say, I know enough to know how little I know - I look forward to picking the brains of the knowledgable members of this forum.
Good to meet you all and I hope to have many fine conversations here.
Dan

If you look on my website you will see a list of Smiths who could easily shorten your barrel and fit you a new gripframe. Good Luck, thanks for joining in, and enjoy! fermincgarza.com

^^^^ This! ^^^^
So much said in such few words. Doc's work is THE standard by which many of us judge leather.
