Gentlemen, and ladies if any are present,
I've gleaned a lot of useful information from this site over several years, as well as found validation in a lot of things I had to learn on my own. Thank you.
A few weeks ago, I finally signed up, but the virus thing hit and I've been busy trying to suddenly teach online with no prior experience. BUSY.
I had never signed up before, because there are posters here who qualify for legend-status, and many who are darned close to that. Most of my experience has been hard-earned over many decades and in a bit of a vacuum. Some of it relates here and I've seen opportunities to pay a little forward here with some of my limited experiences, so I thought I'd sign up and pitch in here and there, even though someone else always seems to have eventually posted what little thing I thought I could contribute.
A little about myself; I have some "quirks" which seem to irritate others in a lot of places, like I don't get along with the beautiful Bisley grip on Rugers at all. Had three and they are too big for me. The original Super Blackhawk grip is as bad or worse for me. Worse - The old XR3 does not fit me either and I actually prefer and do best with the XR3-RED variants. I'm going to get this out front right now - I put an aluminum XR3-RED on my 5.5" Flat Top 44 Special. Sweetest SA I've ever owned and I waited a long time for it. I'd get run out of town on a pole in some discussions for admitting this, but I've not seen such intolerance here.
I'm a big fan of 3" DA revolvers and 5" or 5.5" SA revolvers. The 44 Special has been my favorite for a long, long time. I've loved and hated the 357 Mag through several on-again/off-again flings in the past, but I've matured and it's mellowed (the way I load it) and we get along fine. Love the 44 Mag and 45 Colt, 32 Mag., etc. but I've pared me battery to a minimum of what I can keep up with on limited "disposable income," but that was by choice. I've been "simplifying" on many levels and enjoying most of it.
First handgun I ever shot was an OM Super Blackhawk, 44 Mag, using the Lyman 429303 over as much H110 as my dad could safely get between the bottom of the case and the bottom of the bullet. Shot a perfectly-centered hole through the earth on a spent Sherwin Williams paint can at ten feet. Didn't look back from there and that was fifty years ago this year.
I've been through a bunch of guns in my life, but as I near retirement age (whatever that is), I have been on a ten-year purge to get down to only what I need and will use - and I own nothing just because "everyone else" likes it, but respect their "likes.". Nothing super-fancy, just solid performers.
I cast for and reload (almost) all my own ammo. I still reload and shoot jacketed in one gun - a 223, which is just for coyotes who have unexplainable insight on my personal range limitations with my cast loads.
OK, that was more than enough about me.
I want to thank whoever is in charge of approving membership requests for letting me in, and I promise to try to remember to wipe my feet or take my boots off as appropriate.
Jeff
