Yes and using .401" cast bullets helps. So many of the jacketed bullets are undersized. I've measured some as small as .397".
The extra diameter keeps headspace on the case mouth very positive.

The little gun is a runner.
Currently the grip frame is out getting fitted with antler grip stocks. Hopefully I'll be able to update with photos some time soon.
Also I have some of the parts for the sighting department that'll be getting into the massage of the finishing touches after the grip job is done.

The "sighting department". Is that when you and Jack flip a coin?

The "sighting department". Is that when you and Jack flip a coin? C’mon man, they’re professionals.... ...it’s rock/paper/scissors.

With the size of that cylinder, maybe a FA 353-style 357 mag is possible? A 353-SS...

You can most certainly build a 357 Magnum on a Single Six Frame. Sometimes you get into the transfer bar channel when opening up the gate on a New Model. But, that can be welded up and reshaped.
I'd probably go with an Old Model to minimize problems. I'd considered this, but in the end would be replicating the FA-97. So, I just bought one of those instead.

Would the cylinder length not be longer on the single six custom platform vs the FA 97 which is know for short cylinders.

At least not enough to make any difference.

To me, the most underrated cartridge for those wanting a powerful gun built on the S6 Platform is the 10mm Magnum.
It's shorter than the 357 Magnum, so that leaves more beef in the gun. It operates at the same pressure as the 10mm Auto, so that's not a concern. It's also smaller in diameter than the 357 Magnum Rim, so opening the loading gate on a New Model isn't typically a problem.
