single six bisley 22 drift rear sight is about 42 oz. a FA 97 in 45 colt 5.5" barrel is about 38 oz. My 5.5" FA97 is 37.2 oz and my Reeder 6.5" 10mm Single Five is 34.0 oz. You could certainly decrease weight with an aluminum gripframe and ERH.

I've never put a SS and a FA side by side... Just how do the frames match up size wise...weight wise? Here’s your old OM 41 Special Single Six Here is a Bowen Single Six conversion, a Model 97 in 327 and your old 5 shot midframe flattop in 45 Colt for size comparison. I’ll try to weigh them later. Tim As Bushog pointed out to me (ouch!) I labeled the picture wrong. I fixed it. The weights below are for the correct guns. OK - adding weights, all have the same barrel length: 41 Single Six - 34.5 ounces. Small steel "Vaquito" gripframe, I think and big holes in the cylinder and barrel. Smallest overall 327 FA - 38.9 ounces. Modified gripframe, small holes in barrel and cylinder. Snakewood one-piece grips so they might weigh a bit more than the 2-piece horn on the others. Slightly larger than the Single Six 45 mid frame - 43.8 ounces. This one has a lanyard loop, steel gripframe and big holes. Bigger than the FA Also, I weighed a Single Six 327 conversion by Bowen, same length barrel but it's a ribbed S&W barrel. Steel gripframe. It is 35.5 ounces. oh - also has horn grips. So - the FA is maybe 3-1/2 ounces more than a similar Single Six.

Appreciate you posting that!!!
Not to detract from Max's Thread. Just to show what can be done with these small frames.

These are really neat!!!
Would a 38 Super be a good choice?
Rim and case diameter line up nicely and its straight walled.

My first centerfire project on the Single Six Frame was my 38 Super/9mm dual cylinder gun.
It works great...

I love these conversions on the Single Six frame, but still find the medium frame balances best for me. The 3-3/4" Montado is near perfection in my mind.

That's one thick walled cylinder. Looks thicker than most 454s.
Will add strength, but also weight. I'll be curious how much the finished weight is.
I'd bet more than a FA97 44 Special or 45 Colt.

Max.... fine appetizer. Doubt Ruger anticipated extent to which his revolvers would be customized. Long given the Blackhawk/SBH heat treatment, somewhere in fairly recent history a modified heat treatment was given the Single-Six. All I could get out of Bill Ruger, Jr., was, “It’s plenty strong.” The 10mm Auto is a potent cartridge of high intrinsic accuracy. Brass never lasts as long in an autoloader, even recovered. The case is strong and should hold up well in the cylinder. David Bradshaw

Wonder if he is going to add Smith and Wesson sights?
That cylinder looks like it could have almost been a 6 shot!

This is very tempting. I have a birdshead single seven that is just a delight to carry. That same configuration with smith and Wesson sights in 10mm would be about the perfect trailgun for most anywhere in the country. anxious to see this thread continue
