Just reading...Sounds like WLP primers are recommended, giving lower pressures per velocity... I only have CCI in that size tonight... In your opinion, is 28 grains of H-110 a safe starting load under a Matt's 440 grain WFNGC???
Not going to start out with too many, as I'm hand scaling each round ( still have Trailboss in the measure )
I'm not planning on light loads in this BFR, as I have a custom 5 shot Super Blackhawk in 50 AE, that will be doing the 50 caliber light work

Also I assume RCBS offers a seating stem for a wide flat nose???

I have not tried the Matts. bullets so I would use my info at your own risk. My starting load with a CP 440 WFNGC was 27 grains of 110 with a CCI 350. I ended up at 28.5 and this was very accurate and gave me 1325 fps out of my 5.5 BFR. If you can measure your Matt bullet from top of crimp groove to base of bullet I will compare it to what I have. The RCBS does come with a seater that will work with the WFN.

I've done lots of shooting the the Matt's you bought.
RCBS does have a wide flat nose seating plug, BUT the bullet you bought 90% metplate is going to get a slight ring around the tip since the seating plug is slightly less than .45" inside diameter. You'll have to call RCBS and have them make a customer plug that measures .46" or so, or send them three bullets and have them custom make it to the bullets.
With H110/296 I've shot both WLP and CCI350, and the CCI350 is a cleaner and better ignition. The WLP left a heck of a fireball out the front of the gun, but no real ignition problems. I've since switched permanently to the CCI350's and not looked back for this powder combination.
I don't want to publicly release data especially for these higher end loads, so I've PM'd you.

My dies came with 2 seating stems The odd 440's I have laying around fit into the smaller ( I assume FTX type seating stem ) the ones I loaded last night, ( the Matt's WFN ) I had to switch to the other seating stem, & they did leave a slight ring on the face of the wide flat nose... I'll be looking for a better design eventually... but I was able to load them without much deformation...
On the higher pressures with the CCI primers, that I've read about... to me that seems like better / more complete ignition, or faster burning of the powder, burning it while it's still in the confines of the case or gun... I also have just about exclusively CCI primers... especially in the handgun primers because I've gotten better ignition, & more complete burning of powder with them... but, if that is the case, then pressures could be higher, & possibly excessive on the hotter loads with the CCI's & that the WLP primers may not be efficiently burning all the powder hence the lower pressures... I'm certainly open for discussing this, but at this point, I've yet to fire a JRH cartridge, so my contributions would only be from my experience with other cartridges

This is a 28gr load of 296 with a WLP, this is almost every single shot that I'm getting a ring of fire. When I switch to CCI350's, the fireballs were significantly less often and I felt like I was getting a cleaner and more uniform burn. I've always run with the general rule for H110/296, if it's in a 44 sized shell or large, CCI350 it. Of course, I've run WLP, CCI300 and CCI350 in my 41 mag and haven't had a discernible difference in ignition but have noticed on 44 and up, might just be my dumb mind.

***** squigz.... caught a 2-foot snowfall a few days ago. I was out, shooting Ruger SBH Bisley Hunter .44 Mag. The softwoods showered snow on me with each shot. Reckon, with your “Ring of Fire” photo as resume, you may as well audition for avalanche work in the Rockies. David Bradshaw

Picked up my revolver yesterday... I have one box of the hotter 440 grain Buffalo Bore ammo for reference, & loaded about 40 rounds to try, all with the Matt's 440 WFNGC... Mostly H-110, but a couple Accurate powders as well, as I'm not seeing anything out there for those... #9 looks promising

AA#9 is my go to powder for midrange 440’s. 4100 works pretty much the same.

Got a bloody knuckle... Which most often ( for me ) means I spent a good portion of the day shooting magnum handguns A pretty good day, will add more after chores... Only bad thing... My right side grip panel chipped out the tip of the grip starting at the pin, on the 2nd shot fired from the gun, requiring gloves for the remaining 38 shots fired today... And I need a taller front sight for warm 440 grain loads, if I'm going to shoot at targets

Funny how the fun and interest of a new toy can overcome physical discomfort.... Yesterday it was 36°, with a 25 mph North wind... Cold & windy enough to make for challenging shooting conditions... That and the broken grip panel, keeps me from worrying about the group sizes too much ( though I did have 3 shots into the same ragged hole twice on 5 shot groups ) also maybe cold enough to cause powder burning issues on tough to light powders... Which I don't think I really noticed, but when I get to extreme spreads, perhaps some of that could be attributed to the colder temps...
My middle finger on my shooting hand is pretty beat up today... But that resulted from 35 rounds of warm 440 grain bullet loads 500 JRH, and 10 rounds of over 2200 fps 250 grain bullet loads out of my buddy's 460 S&W BFR... I did wear a glove, after my right side grip panel broke the bottom part off, on the 2nd shot from the 500 JRH... In 2 shots without a glove, I got a cut line through the top layer of skin across my palm ( just 1 outer layer of skin... Nothing serious ), from the seam of the grip frame, and the right grip panel... And the start to a good bashing of my middle finger...
As I indicated above, I did contact Accurate Powders, but did not hear from them before I went out on a limb, and loaded 5 rounds of my "best guess" powders & charges ( disclaimer here... I load close to 90 different cartridges, many of which are wildcats, so I feel I can make good "best guesses" based on my experience here )... I did try 5 rounds with AA #7... IMO, this is too fast a powder, for the Matt's 440 grain WFNGC bullets, but because my gun has the shortest available barrel, I wanted to give it a try, and got surprisingly decent results... I also got pretty aggressive with AA #9, loading 15 rounds, again falling on my past expirience, and again got surprisingly decent results... 20 rounds of H-110, all with 28 grains rounded out 1st trial ammo... All were loaded on new JRH Starline cases, and were touched off by CCI-350 primers... I'll give exact charges, average velocities, and extreme spreads, when I get into the room, that my notebook is in, in a few minutes
